This a horrible link, if we want a right back the only player we should be looking at Joao Cancelo, only 23, has incredible long ball/crossing ability, can dribble and is pretty quick. Pretty nifty in defence and very well suited to a high press. He would be absolutely perfect for Poch. He is going to be a star in a few years. His loan at Inter is just finishing and hasn't decided if he wants to stay permanently. He is also Portuguese and already much better Cedric IMO.
It seems like a link to a player from a relegation-threatened team - which we have form for following up on.

Would much rather go after Cancelo or Pereira.

We already have 3rb..2 of them can't defend..we don't need another rb who can't defend.. spend the money where it's needed & just give KWP a season to play & prove himself instead wasting 20 -30 odd million

Would rather stick with what we have than take him-screams of trying to get a cheap option from a relegated club (if they go down)

Could see us going for Bertrand if they go down

Aurier has been bang average when at his best this season and piss poor in a good few games. If our interest in Cedric means we're portentially looking to replace Aurier I'm all for it. Although, I think he may need a season at least to settle and let Poch work his magic so could be too early to cut our ties with Serge.

Given the performance of our RWBs this season, I would like them both be sold and replaced by Cancelo and KWP. Trippier is 27 and it's not like he's going to improve his current game anymore than he already has. Aurier neither has the pace nor the temperament.

My only reservation about Cancelo would be his pace; he may look fast but you have to keep in mind that the other leagues are much slower that the EPL. One of the reasons we were so good the past couple seasons was due to the blistering pace of Rose and Walker, something we've sorely lacked this season on both sides of the pitch.

Yeah, he’s fast but certainly not Walker Rose pace, but I think he has the intelligence and greater ability then both our current right backs. Also if Herc is right and Poch really wants to switch to three at the back he would be excellent. And he’s young, he will only get better. Still, I can believe our intrest in Cedric even if I dislike it!

WHAT YEAR IS IT?
Maybe this forum should mandate everyone include the last version of FIFA they bought so we can better understand what their frame of reference for player evaluation is because that seems the driving factor.

I just think they're decent players, that are still young enough to improve and both would benefit from a move.
And I've never seen FIFA or played, let alone owned one.
Though, I admit, the fact that they're English does make them seem more tempting.

Not to pick on you specifically it's just that both are prime pick up cheap on FIFA 15 and win the league in 3 seasons players. Despite their relative youth both have been full professionals going on 4 years now and I have not seen any notable improvement by either in that timeframe. Maybe that's just Southampton's own poor managerial choices during that time but you also have to own your own game as well.

Yeah, at this point Ward-Prowse looks like a dead-ball specialist only and for us you need to have much more to your game than that and Redmond looks like your classic English winger - fast and somewhat tricky, but with almost no end product whatsoever.

We can do far better than those two.

I'm not saying I want Soares but I'm not sure I follow the argument that if we're going to get him we may as well just stick with KWP. Surely if we sign Soares it's because Poch, in the thousands of hours he's watched KWP train with the first team etc., has decided that he's not good enough and that Soares would be an upgrade

When we were linked to Soares last week on Twitter (yes I know it’s Twitter) wods of Saints fans were laughing and couldn’t believe we’d want him... stating he’s no good.

Like I say, I'm not saying we should or shouldn't sign Soares. All I'm saying is the argument that we've got KWP so why do we want him doesn't really stack up for me because Poch has obviously seem plenty of KWP to decide whether he's good enough or not.

If we were to go for a RB I think i'd prefer Pereira but at this stage I think we should leave it and just keep one of Aurier and Trippier to compete with Walker-Peters.

Is he the bloke we were linked with a couple of years ago when Walker was first rumoured to be leaving?

As much as I’d like a player called Cedric, he’s not good enough to be any sort of improvement on what we have. Just give KWP some games, just an idea
