I will go further and say that this season will show the country what a good player Steven Caulker is. We will probably end this season tripling his wages and tying him down to a long contract.

He is something special and Leeds would be a great place for him to show the world this. On a side-note though, I see that Ken Bates' enmity towards Tottenham has subsided in order to borrow one of our brightest young talents.

I thought he was off to Doncaster? Be good to see him in Championship, if he can play a full season at that level at his age then he has the potential to play for us

Leeds are a "big club" and this brings it's own pressure. I think it's a brilliant move and can only improve him in every way.

Hmmm, just noticed that Leeds were mentioned in my 666th post - the sign of the devil - how apt!!

Not sure he would start at Leeds. Naylor is the captain, they signed Neil Collins from Preston this summer and Kisnorbo is a Austrailian international. I think Kisnorbo is injured and won't be back until November so I imagine if this loan is gonna happen it will be maybe until January as cover for Kisnorbo

I don't think Bates has any enmity towards us, he's previously said that we approach the club and do business in the right way unlike chelsea.
No doubt this would be a good loan for Caulker but I'd like to see him spend some time with us this year, interestingly I looked at his wiki page and it says he plays as a centre back for Tottenham Hotspur which technically isn't true really, we have his contract but he hasn't played yet.

As I said in another thread, I think this move suggests that either Woodgate's recovery is progressing or we are closer to signing an additional centre back

I don't think Caulker would have been first choice cover anyway. We played Huddlestone at the back in the second half against San Jose and Kaboul played the whole game there. King, Dawson, Bassong, Kaboul, Corluka, Huddlestone and then probably Caulker might have got a look in. He is only 18.

He has had one season of competitive football at League 1 level and did well by all accounts and now he is going to get a chance at Championship level. He is more likely to be closer to the first team squad if he gets another season of first team football.

Don't forget that Tottenham Hotspur, as a football club, runs several teams and not just the first team.

Therefore, there's nothing wrong to say that Caulker plays for us as a centre back, even if it's not for the first team.

Big step up for him. He'll know all about Leeds after being tonked 4-0 by them last year.

Whilst I would normally agree with you in principle, the Townsend/Bentley situation has given me the impression that Harry has more faith in some of these boys than we do.

Although we have the players that you have listed I still think we are one short of a ball playing defender. Kaboul and Dawson are very good at attacking the ball but when they play together they leave space in behind them. Caulker has been described as a calm ball playing defender with pace. (A young King if you like!)
