Not sure I agree with that. Burnley just didn’t allow Son any time and space to pick up the ball and turn. They were also very organised at the back and didn’t give Son a lot of space to run into. I don’t think Kane playing changed that.
We lost that game imo simply because we couldn’t handle their physical approach and failed to move the ball quickly enough when we did get any space to attack.
I still don’t understand the selection of Foyth. An excellent player on the ball, but someone who is not suited at this stage in his career with the way he plays for a team like Burnley. Instead we left out a quick physical defender like Sanchez.
What they probably mean by having Kane distrubted our shape is that having Llorente up top was a better idea next to Son against a team that sits back deep which I agree with.
Llorente himself is not all-around player but he does provide good knock downs/flick ons and also some distraction due to his physicality. Even without much space to work with, Son was previously able to score from them by taking a shot outside the box but this did not happen.
And what we blatently lacked in the first half was pace and control from our midfield. If we pushed on with pace, much like how we played during our last 3-4 league games using Son's pace, we wouldn't have played into their hands the way we did from the beginning. Even if we went into the second half scoreless, we would have still had Harry to come off the bench and he would've most likely scored still.
There was nothing wrong with sticking with the set up with which we won games. Especially our win v. Dortmund showed we had the ability to beat one of the Europe's best. But that sprit was gone, they were nothing like the team we saw that day.
Kane stepped up despite having been away for 6 weeks but the chemistry between players needs to be rebuilt and Poch was naive in thinking Kane would be 100% ready and our players would be able to adopt to the change of style of play straight away especially against a team like Burnley.
It was a gamble and Poch knew it.
