Hamburg, astonishingly, might yet survive. Rafa played very well today. Even got his balls on the line, as he planted them right in front of an attempted volley.

@not_tenth-again tough weekend man, sorry for ya. I really don't want to see Stuttgart go down. Will be interesting to see how Mainz responds to this loss, be it revenge/frustration or continued complacency in safety.

Yep, the Stuttgart hating devil scripted those weekend results.... and the week prior. Mountain to climb now. Paderborn and Hamburg sitting next to us on the table provided some padding, they're gone now and it looks dire.

I thought 7 might be enough but not so sure now. TBH besides the mathematics of it I just don't see us scoring the 12 or 13 required to bail out our shit defense.

How big is your next game. Friday night at home V Freiburg, you could just about be safe after that result.

Well, I still think there's a legitimate chance one of Hannover or Freiburg and Paderborn don't acquire another point, in which case I think it's manageable on a mere six points, which is doable looking at your schedule. Likewise, Hamburg could lose to Freiburg and then they've a tough remaining slate as well with a trip to you and then hosting Schalke which will be wanting to hold on to a Europa slot. Getting something out of Mainz of course would be huge, but I think you'll do us at home and taking the points at Paderborn is certainly manageable. That'd land you in 16th, but I would suspect given the situation that if offered today the choice to play in the relegation playoff, you'd take it.

Our next one is massive indeed. Would be great to get the result at home and then kick back and watch the rest of the results roll in, as I agree that a win would likely see us through barring extreme events. An annoying anomaly is Bayern, as Pep is fleshing out the youth (understandably) and so we can't count on them to beat Freiburg in two weeks in a fixture which would have been a no-brainer a month ago. Was hoping Freiburg would beat Paderborn thus making that fixture not matter so much, but as Paderborn reached up and threw Freiburg back down into the scrap, that certainly changes things. Personally, Freiburg is the one I'm hoping to go down the most, as they have several players I'd like to see at HSV in the event of a failure. I'd take Darida and Schmid off them in a heartbeat, and I don't think they could afford to keep them in the event of a decline.

@not_tenth-again

Well then, that changes things considerably. Congrats. Six teams now within four points, five within two, and two gamedays to go. Going to be a brutal finish.

That was a good point you got on Friday.... from Stuttgart's perspective. I'm really happy Freiberg are still in the mix as much as it'd probably be better for one or two teams to clear out I'm all for muddying the water at the moment - it might mean we don't need to go through a play off, it could also mean much worse but anyway...... Our game this weekend is starting to feel a little cut throat, the loser may well have some serious heat to deal with in the final game. A draw might mean both of us do.

It's a amazing what a win does for your outlook on life. We're still bottom of the table but with 2 rounds to go I'm feeling pretty confident all things considered.

Guess Horst Heldt wasn't kidding when he said anyone who doesn't give everything for the club wouldn't see the next training session.....

Just looking at the draw and table again and by rights Paderborn, Freiberg and Hannover should all miss out this round as each of them have teams in European positions. What an opportunity that gives both our teams to clear the pack... getting nervous already.

That's insane.

We should them contracts . Not sure about bringing Prince back, but I'd be interested in Sidney Sam.

Sidney Sam has the minor issue that he either gets hurt by a stiff breeze repeatedly through the season or just doesn't care for patches of it......i think we can let someone else take the chance.

Yeah, but I think he's worth the chance. I wouldn't put too much into this release being on the part of the players, Heldt is simply trying to save face and blame players for the recent performances. They should have kept Keller. The club is a mess.

As you should be. Tbh, I think of all the bottom five, despite being bottom you're the most likely to survive. By far the easiest remaining slate. Yes, of course a win last week would have been golden, but I'm content with the point just as I'd be against Stuttgart. While I still think you'll jump Hamburg on the final day by beating Paderborn, I think that point could be critical if Hannover and Freiburg draw on the final day.

Yeah, there's no ways around it, this is a critical six pointer we have on our hands. The winner sets themselves up nicely going into the final matchday, so I think it'll be a balls out affair. I think Stuttgart will prevail, which isn't the end of the world since I think Schalke will get it done against Paderborn, and as Bremen and Dortmund each have tough games on the matchday, they could wrap up Europa qualification this weekend. In that event, I'm hoping they'll just go coasting into the game at the Volkparkstadion looking forward to the summer after a dismal Ruckrunde, and won't put up much of a fight. Conversely, as their players might still "be on trial" with the recent sacking of Prince and Sam, that could go very badly for HSV haha. So here's to hoping they absolutely smash Paderborn this weekend, so they keep their fans and board content while Paderborn goes reeling into the final day at the Mercedes Benz.

Oh buddy.... what a shocker. Who would have picked both Hannover and Freiberg to beat teams in European spots - I always hate Bayern but even more so now, they do this nearly every year once they've won the title, it really plays havoc with the rest of the league. Fingers crossed there won't be a draw between Freiberg and Hannover this weekend

Haha I figured you'd be pleased with today's events. Any rumors yet as to replacements? I think you guys should snap up de Boer.

Congrats to @not_tenth-again on his team deservedly escaping the relegation threat. Brilliant escape there at the end of the season with bold personnel changes and injected vigor.

Hamburg set to play Karlsruher in the playoff. Godspeed, die Rothosen.

Well how about that for a finish.

I feel a bit sorry for Freiberg, how often does a team with only a -11 goal difference go down? they're going to be gutted by this, quite a few good players will want out now.

And who honestly thought Hannover would survive two or three weeks ago.... or Stuttgart for that matter.

It's such a great league. Take out Bayern and its a very balanced comp.

Good luck in the playoff. You're carrying a bit of momentum now, fingers crossed for you.

Amazing turnaround for Stuttgart, 9 points from 9 to finish the season and clear the pack. Very happy household yesterday.

Di Matteo, what a con job he is. Glad he got what he deserved. Agree with DaSpurs, De Boer is the guy for the job.

I see Dortmund are active again - Castro on a free. Now to see who they'll sell.

Despite my relief, I can't help but feel for Freiburg. An impressive defensive record, strong fight til the end with a weak budget, some clever acquisitions, and undone by a cruel own goal at the hands of an experienced player who had had a good season for them. Unbelievably harsh.

That having been said, I'd still like HSV to feast on the carrion :cautious: Would take Darida, Schmid, Klaus, and Burki at Hamburg in a heartbeat. Darida is exactly what Hamburg's midfield needs.

I really did expect Hannover to go down. Before they drew with Wolfsburg, they looked completely devoid of confidence and ideas. Stunning resolve displayed by them in the end. Stuttgart, tbh, I believed would emerge (although it's all the more impressive they got it done despite how far behind they were and the unexpected wins by Freiburg and Hannover the week prior). Really impressive escape that surprised me regardless of predicting them to make it.

What do you think of Stevens stepping down? Good thing, bad thing? Replacements? Streich mayhaps (carrion can be good)?

There was a 12 point difference between 4th and 5th though.
