Sheringham and Klinsman was probably next best as a partnership that I've seen.

in his book, Jimmy Greaves mentioned that Bobby Smith was his favourite playing partner. He says that Smudger Smith was never given credit for the high level of skill he had and made his (Greaves') job relatively easy with the way he balldozed defenders away and cleared the decks for Jim. I'm old enough to see them play and they were good together. Smithy also scored 13 goals in 15 appearances with England in tandem with Jim so obviously they had a rare combination.
As others have already mentioned, the Greaves-Gilzean partnership was also right up there.
