True, but i figured you were talking cup wise, didn't realise we were going deeper than weight of silver in the cabinet

Didn't we get our arses handed to us in europe in '92? Was that the year we had that game against Feyenoord where the fans all kicked off?

Yup, the game that John de Wolf (sp??) kept Lineker in his pocket. Remember it well.

So, where were you in '99?

following spurs as i have been for nearly 50 years - how long have been a suporter - I doubt you know 50% about the club compared to me - so where were you RSS?

if you think beating leecister was as good as beating chelsea that's up to you

I was actually at Wembley that day and loved it - but there's no doubt that our carling run this time was better than in 99 - though that was good too

but beating Arsenal and Chelsea tops beating wimbledon & leicester - and as someone has said we weren't in UEFA either that season - tho we did get to FA semi and I was there too - but I still say this season was better - partly for the football played and partly for saving our decade

You're over 50?! I thought you were younger than me!

Oh, and, just because you're older, doesn't mean you know more about the club as such. Perhaps you know more about the pre-historic Tottenham, but not the present.

it doesn't just because of age- it does because I do - and if you think the 60s is prehistoric then you're lacking in either English skills or football knowledge - don't tell me you think football began with Sky

erm, i'm sorry, i didn't realise *pins big gold medal to DC*

Where was i when? Look, if this is about them Pandas, they all have Visa's and they can all work a lathe, so what's the problem?

If you're into your 50's, why you still call yourself boy?

erm, i didn't say it was... :|

so... you were basically telling me that, because i thought that the poster who i quoted (and frankly can't be arsed to go back and find out who it was) was only weighing up the amount of silver, rather than how well we played generally them years, i shouldn't think that 99 is worth mention?

Is it a rule now then that, if we do well in a competition, that year is considered null and void because we happened to draw tougher teams in a more recent year or something?

I must admit to being a little confused as to why 99 is considered a failure just because it was Wimbledon and Leicester, not Woolwich and Chelsea

We won a cup! Yeah, the draw favoured us, but so what? Just because you don't rate the teams we beat doesn't mean it wasn't a great achievement - if anything, even more of an achievement considering the players we had then compared to now.

We beat Liverpool and Man Utd before we played Wimbledon & Leicester, so it wasn't like we had the easiest of cup runs that year anyway.

.

RSS what I didn't like was your sarcastic tone (as I interpreted it) and frankly your replies haven't helped that much- so I'm not bothering to reply to them -

if you don't agree that this season (so far) isn't better than 99 that's your opinion - all you had to do was put your point across in a civilised manner instead of giving me one of these  things which as an old git I don't particularly like -

and where was I in 99 - nat Wembley - where were you? - where was i in 71 - at Wembley where were you? where was I betwen 71-99 at every lge cup final - where were you? -

where was i in 69 when Arsenal set up the 40 years of hurt we avenged in 2008 - at the Lane where were you - oh and i was there in 2008 too!

I've been posting on these boards for years now - thousands of posts - hundreds documenting my long and loyal support of the club - and if you and Flatters still think I'm some kind of teenager you clearly don't read my posts much - which is of course your pregotative -

regarding the name I just chose it on a whim - probably was a mistake - but really judge the posts not the title - I assume you are a superstar BTW - which band did/do you play in?

I thought it was obvious that DC Boy was of the older clan. Helps if you read the forum posts, imo.

thank you Kendall :)

obviously if people just look at the title of the poster and think I'm 19 or whatever - fair enough - it probably was a silly name to choose - but with all those posts behind me - i'm not changing now :)

you're right pete - I would never diss the 99 triumph (and a lot of people did incidentally - partly because we were managed by Graham)

I loved us winning in 99 and I loved us winning in 71 & 73 too and likewise in 2008

but I do think the last victory was the biggest of all our league cup wins - partly because it was chelsea - and because it transformed a barren decade- and because the global audience for the game would have far exceeded any of our previous wins - and because much as I loved ginola I love watching our current side even more

also tickets weren't going for anything like £700-1000 for the 99 final - another measure of how much bigger this final was

I totally agree with all of that. Watching Ginola single-handedly take Man U apart on the way was brilliant, but not as much fun as the 5-1 was. It was sweeter to win as the underdog rather than the (slight) favourite in the 99 final as well.

What was this thread about again................. oh I remember........Bent or someone. Anyway, what about a close to this one guys, it has spawned so much bile over something so ill considered, (yes I said ill considered), that we should be turning our weary keyboard fingers to this Thursday. Wadyasay, uh, uh.
