That what players state might not be true
I think he could develop into a goalscoring CM.
I think he could develop into a goalscoring CM.
No I dont think you're lying, I can quite believe Bale has said that. Its just as I have said, the only time I can think of him defining himself he didnt say he was a fullback (and I thought him saying he was a 'left sider' would be a good peace offering for the 'debate').
Maybe post a link to the interview?
You haven't got to prove anything, SP. There is nothing to prove and will not be until he is fully established in his eventual position.
If Gareth Bale says he sees his future as a left back then that is only his opinion too, unfortunately. It isn't a fact at all, because ultimately it's not down to him. That's not to go against your argument, because, of course, who could disagree when that IS what he has ACTUALLY said, so you are completely right in what you are stating. On the other hand, take our own beloved Sol Campbell, for instance, he saw himself as a forward and played there when he was younger, yet went onto become one of the greatest defenders in the world. Thierry Henry was a winger, etc., etc.
You're also 100% correct when you say that is where Redknapp said he sees his future, but it only takes a few decent showings to change a manager's mind on such matters. I would honestly say that 'Arry is starting to change his mind right now. You could even say that although it was first forced on us by Palacios' suspension, Bale is now, in a roundabout way, keeping Wilson out of the team by playing on the wing and Palacios was mostly undroppable for most of the season.
I get your point completely and I'm not arguing with it, at all, so please don't hit me with your graduation cap (Insert friendly, smiley, winky, smiley here), as I understand that you are not giving an opinion. In fairness, I am probably arguing against Bale and Redknapp and their opinions to be honest!
I reckon he'll end up a winger, for the record. Just a shame no one uses wing-backs anymore.
Understand the frustration completely, SP, if people have called you an idiot or suggest someone is an idiot for not agreeing with them, they are not even worth debating with in my eyes and I try not to ever get involved in such discussions for the sake of my sanity!
As they say, 'Never argue with an idiot......'
(Pay no attention to my obvious contradiction in the last 2 paragraphs)!
But I am not talking about personal opinions. It is not my opinnion that Bale is a full-back, or that he is a better full-back than a winger. It is a fact.
Simple:
Bale says he is a full-back;
Bale says he sees his future as a full-back;
Bale practices on his defending in training to make himself a better full-back;
'Arry says he see him predominantly as a full-back;
'Arry says he see his future predominantly at full-back;
'Arry has him practice defending in training to make him a more effective full-back;
The Club list him officially as a full-back (check the OS).
Now, at no popint in those seven statements of fact have I said 'I think', or 'I want' or 'I believe'. They are seven facts coming directly from the people who matter, saying that he is a full-back...he can also play on the wing, and play there very effectively, but that is a different issue. The fact (FACT) which I stated in my original post, is that he is BY DEFINITION a full-back...i.e. the people who matter definie him as a full-back. I wasn't responding to anyone's post who siad that their opinion was that Bale would be a better winger than full-back; or that we should convert Bale from a full-back to a winger. I was specifically responding to those, who despite this being explained to them several times, still persist in referring to Bale as though he were BY DEFINITION a winger, when he is BY DEFINITION a full-back. Get it:shrug:
These quotes are outdated, the whole world saw what Bale can do when he plays on the left wing. He won player of the month while playing as LW, yes? He scored two goals playing as LW, yes? And finally the game against Man U when he played both as LB and LW, the play on the left side improved drastically as soon as he moved back to the LW position. These are the real facts, not just what I think or what Bale or Harry thinks about where Bale should play or if he is better of as LB or LW. If you close your eye to these facts then. Yes, he cam play as LB in an emergency situation.
As far as the Man U interest in him, it is not because they need a good LB it is because Ryan Gigs is about to retire, and he is one of the best left wingers that have played this game.
Maybe when he gets older - 30+, and he loses some of his speed I can see him playing in the midfield.
Yet Bale wasn't the left back for that goal, Ekotto was :grin:
Still don't get it do you Boris.
I have never denied any of this...but it has absolutely no bearing to the original argument as to his primary categorisation, or to why I insisted on making that point.
And, if you were a keen follower of football you would know that there is always debate about players and how well they play. That is opinion, and I have never said that no-one can hold an opinion contrary to mine. If you still don't get that then there is little point in bothering with you, is there.
Indeed, having reread my original post that you quoted, you haven't actually disproven any of that...and you are a good examlpe of the people I'm talking about. No matter how many times it is explained to you you still come back with your misunderstanding of what is being argued, and not actually adressing the original point at all.:hello:
I've noticed he waved his academia rapier at me a few times. I haven't had the heart to point out some basic shockers when he is in "lah de dah" mode.
I mean if he insists on waving his intelligence dick, at least back it up by writing properly :grin: I can't avoid the balloon of irony that floats over his busted paragraphs when he plays the "I am smarter than you so I must be right" card.
I am anti spelling Natzis (because I can't write for shite), but when someone goes out of their way to tell you they are superior, it is really is hard not to see the funny side when it looks his paragraphs are glued together by David Beckham.
I wouldn't worry about this fella's opinion to much, I'm sure he's the same person that started a 'I just don't get it with modric' thread a couple of weeks ago, got ripped to shreds and didn't reply to any of the comments on said thread
I had to suffer several PMs from him years ago going on about his academic achievements and how he achieved so much, against all the odds. I think it was 3 in a row without a reply from myself at one point and saying the same stuff paragraph after paragraph:duh:. He really should give up supporting Spurs and go and support Leicester City as the guy has a bigger chip on his shoulder than Walkers could ever hope to create. Back on the ignore for me. Pity I wasted 5 mins reading this thread, that's time I can never get back :-(
No worries SP, I definately dont agree with those who insist Bale is a winger and NOT a fullback. Personally (and like nearly everyone else) I'm just happy when I see his name on the teamsheet - fuck he could play anywhere and I'd be happy with that!As I said, I can't post link, as it didn't seem like something I would need to 'prove' months down the line.
I appreciate that you were making a 'peace offering' by suggesting that, and if I came down a little hard I apologise.
But, as I have said, it seems like millions of times, I said weeks ago that Chris's categorisation of him as a left-sided player was fair enough...especially in 'real terms'. But what i was objecting to, at a time when all of his matches since his return were at full-back, was posts like 'Bale IS a winger' and even 'Anyone who can't see that Bale IS a winger is an idiot'. Under those circumstances, I think it was very enough of me to demonstrate that Bale's primary categorisation, officially is as a full-back. Unfortunately, instead of just accepting this, folk have been posting up on all manner of threads saying 'see , he IS a winger', now that he has had a few games there. And when I pointed out, agian, that his primary categorisation, no matter what anyone wants, is full-back, being accused of denying them their right to an opinion, etc.

"I hate to say it. I HATE to say it but he should be groomed for the wing.
I hate playing people out of position but..."
In the same thread:
"Yep. He is crazy good getting forward. We need Modric to be on the left center midfield to take advantage of bale beating players past the gain line."
