Interested to see what peoples opinions are on Ekotto.

I always thought he looked quite promising and once given time to adapt could be decent, was always impressed by his first touch.

The general opinion I'm seeing is people think he's just gonna be shown the door?

I always liked him.... I think he was in the same situation that Kaboul is in now and then got a bad injury so hasn't been able to rectify his reputation amongst the mass of impulsive "yiddos".

Well as you are asking, what little i've seen of him in our colours, my over-riding impression is one of him being very light weight. An ideal wing back in a slower paced league but i don't think he had time to adjust to the frenetic pace of the Premiership.

I would love to see him fit once more, as would I with Gareth Bale. Those two could be a superb left flank for a few years, if he comes back fit and strong.

Looked comfortable on the ball, good in the tackle (if sometimes wildly over-enthusiastic), passing iffy, disappointing going forward, didn't track back too well, poor positional sense. Did enough before his injury to suggest he could adapt and be a very useful LB, but I suspect he may have missed the boat.

He looked good but a little green. Will become a proper defender if given the chance to play consistently.

I didn't like the way he always kept a considerable distance over his marker and very often let him hit crosses into the box with much ease.

Anyways, he's still young and hopefully he gets another chance next season and takes it

Attacking wise he's also a good crosser and probably our best long passer after Thudd.

Better in Europe than the league, did nt like his comments that he hates football and is only in it for the money. Way behind Bale and Gilberto in the pecking order

Benoit Assou-Ekotto should definitely be given more of an opportunity to re-establish himself after his injure. He showed good promise has very good pace, strong in the tackle, decent delivery with the left foot. He was completely let down tactically by Jol IMO when he choose not to play Edgar Davids on the Left side of midfield while he was adjusting to premiership pace and mentality.

As mentioned above the debate as to Benoit Assou-Ekotto dropping off his right wing marker allowing the cross to come in, a clip shown from youtube Watford Vs Spurs was used to highlight this point. I remember that clip was used to crucify him ... that particular clip however indirectly showed how unbalanced the team was during a period under Jol where he refused to play Davids and left Beniot Assou-Ekotto unprotected.

I personally believe that Benoit Assou-Ekotto and Gareth Bale could form a formidable partnership on our left side.

It was used to highlight the point that, having lost his man (which can happen to anyone), he just stood there watching him go. It might have been risking a penalty if he'd chased after the Watford player and attempted a tackle, but he had the alternative of getting to the corner of the area to intercept a cut-back. He did nothing, and King's look spoke volumes.

Jol made it very clear that he wanted a more creative alternative to Davids on the left, in the form of Malbranque. Lee managed perfectly well in the absence of Davids.

Not seen enough of him to fully evalute him but agree that i dont know if he will ever be good enough for us, for me youve got to love football and play with passion, something ekotto will never have.

Anyone got a link for the youtube video?

Don't see the point in getting rid of him, we need back up in the fullback positions and if he gets himself fit he can provide it.

From what I've seen of him, he looks raw, has good pace and a decent left foot for a fullback, but he's got some of the stroppy Anelkas about him and his body language at times looked like he couldn't be bothered.

A good tackler, but again he went to ground too often for me and left the oppo with too much space, but these two areas can be improved and coached as he's relatively young. So all in all he has the attributes to be a very good fullback, but I have my doubts he's got the right focus to see it through.

I would like to see him be given another chance.

From what I have heard, the manager might never have to make that decision.

given there is only 4 years between him and young Bernache, bernache is Spanish and within a year will be 19 and start to fill out i would suggest if BAE gets a run it'll be short lived in favour of the Spanyard.

Remember going up to Brum in pre season a couple of years ago when Berbs scored the belter. I was impressed with BAE that day but became less impressed as that season went on. I'm sure Juande will give him a chance to impress in pre season, if not then he will obviously be sent through the WHL revolving door
