Berbatov for Eto'o in a straight swap, is a good deal in my books. Eto'o and Bent up front is a frightening prospect... and Robbie Keane has a footballing brain to play with anyone.

well one bit is frightening :-|

I don't know much about Eto'o but on the few times I've seen him, he's never impressed me - is he really as good as his superstar reputation - to me he's not as good as Berbs - may be wrong of course

can anyone explain to me just why why Eto'o is so good - I'm ready to be convinced - and I don't mean by you tube clips :)

I've already said plenty of times if we do sell Berbs I'd rather not spend the money on a big-name striker - and use that money to get a decent striker in who can play with Bent & Keane - and then the rest of the money either on another decent striker or one of our priority positions like GK

of course a swap is a different matter - but swaps don't happen muchand I'm not sure about the value of such a swap anyway for us

People, IMO, don't give Eto'o enough credit. He's a good all round player, with awesome movement, in both directions, not just in behind. He moved around as much as anyone when he played up top with Ronaldinho, Messi and Deco. He's got a good footballing brain, and he's a quality finisher, he doesn't just smack it, he finds the net.

Goalscoring record
At struggling Mallorca he turned them into contenders for Europe, scoring 48 in 120.
He's improved loads at Barcelona, scoring 77 in 104.
Just for good measure, 28 in 64 for Cameroon.

And he's only 27.

They only concern about Eto'o would be if his game would be suited to the English league.

He is a wonderful player, strong fast and a clinical finisher, we would be very lucky to have him. The only realistic problem with signing him is I dont think we can.

thanks for that Kyras - makes me a bit more positive about him - tho as it seems he relies more on pace than Berbs - the fact they're both 27 is a factor in favour of Berbs who will still be as good at 30 as he is now (injuries permitting) - pace can lessen significantly by the 30 mark

Me neither, think he would adapt well to EPL, though. We should have gotten him when we were sooo close six seasons ago...

I'd be much more happy with David Villa, but I can't see any of them wanting to join us. Furthermore, I was under the impression that such big names were not Ramos' style of signings, but that might of course be because of him working at the "smaller" Sevilla..

Actually think ramos would love to pair villa and berbs up, maybe thats his plan, sign villa, berbs will stay, modric to supply. Would work for me, but there does that leave keano?

hi WH - personally I'd far rather see big money spent on defence and mid than on a superstar striker - if we've £100m more to spend fine - do the lot but if it's £60m or so then defence and mid first and decent striker or two if Berbs goes

HI AM - I think those two were defeated by lack of height power and aerial ability - it just wasn't gonna work even if they were fotball's answer to Einstein :)

But mainly the fact that Defoe's rubbish and Keane's nowhere near good enough to be our best striker.

Unfortuntley I have to agree with the above comments As much as I would love to see them in spurs shirt next season I Just cant see us getting either Etoo or Villa.

:) flatters - I might not go that far - but one thing Jol was right about - Defoe and Keane wasn't a good idea together

Do you really think that?

I'm obviously exaggerating just a tad, but I don't think Defoe was ever good enough for us, and I don't think Keane's good enough to be relied upon to be our best striker.
