If signing this guy means a shift to 352 we will need better wingbacks and I mean MUCH better! We have fullbacks with end product that don’t stretch the pitch and it’s needed in that formation and 2 that do but have poor end product. A RWB this window and Udogie hitting the ground running are essential if that’s the case

Looking at signing players after decent world cups?

God, we're in the mud.

If Conte rates Sarr as highly as he says he does - then why not give him a go rather than spending a considerable amount of our budget on this guy?

They're both unproven with potential.

According to @Trix we’ve been scouting him from before the World Cup lol

As has been mentioned, if the formation change to a 352 happens, then he's a great option as one of the 3. Our problem is creativity, so come next season we will hopefully have Udogie and a new creative RWB which frees up Kulu to be the creative influence just behind Kane and Richarlison (I would pick those two over Son based on this seasons form). Ounahi then becomes a great option in that formation in the middle. Then just 2 new CBs and a GK needed and the team looks a whole lot different.

It's crazy how with 2 good signings now, and a further 3 in the summer, how much better we could look.
Just the 5 signings then eh..... crazy how many times we have been alot closer than that in recent years, yet the final pieces were never delivered.

Feel like we always get linked to players who have incredible footwork and never sign them, sometimes give them away like Edwards though

Seems like it’s not our style anymore to have these sorts of players.

He and Sarr appear to be different types of player though, no?
Sarr strikes me more as a box to box type, whereas this guy is more of a take people on type.
If we can pick him up for 20-25m, it adds another dimension to our midfield, a dimension that we don't really have at present.
He's different to the Kessie type that we've been linked to, so that's got to be a positive.

I'm not 100% sold on this guy. I really enjoyed watching Morocco during the world cup, but I do remember not being that impressed with him or that many of their players really when they got near the penalty box.

With that said, he excels at operating in tight spaces and carrying the ball. If that is a specific role that Conte needs a player for then this makes all the more sense, although I think Bissouma and Bentancur can do the same job. If we are going for a 352 then I think we need to find that #6 that can find a pass.

A priority for me is for us to loan Spence to a PL team. If he plays 10-15 matches I think Conte will trust him to be part of the first team picture next season. I think 3-5-2 would be fine with Udogie, Spence, Perisic and Porro ?? as wing backs. Sessegnon is a player i'd consider selling if we can bring some more home grown talent in.

I don’t really knows what’s best for Spence. You’re probably right that a PL loan would be the best thing if Conte isn’t going to give him a proper chance because 5 minutes at the end of matches really isn’t enough to see what he’s about at our level. I agree that Udogie, Spence, Porro and Perisic is a good set of wingbacks going forward. I’d probably keep Sess though because he’s versatile enough to play both flanks in a crisis and can play LW too, plus I like the kid tbh, I want him to succeed here and he was decent second half of last season. This season has been a disaster for him though unfortunately

Indeed and we need this type of perspective before we lose our minds this season. It's a work in progress still but we just need another big year like last year and we're looking good. Just look at how leaky Liverpool were at the back early under Klopp before they signed Van Dijk. If we could get defenders who can make a similar level of impact to Bentancur and Kulusevski we'll look a top side again.

Either a quick passing forward type, or a player willing to drive forward with good dribbling skills, i couldn't care either way as long as we're looking to get the feckin ball forward more often and a damn sight quicker.

From the outside looking in I'd say so, as the more advanced of the three. I would imagine this guy(should we get him) would be his understudy/rotation. The more different names I hear linked the more it looks like a shift away from 3-4-3. At the moment we have no other way of creating anything from the right which is why we have been playing this way and it's why we are still looking at more or less CM options that can play forward than outright AM's.

All imho of course.
I’ll be pleased if we do come away from 3-4-3 as atm I feel like teams know we aren’t that strong in CM. They just overrun us by playing 3 in there or by playing a narrower formation like Villa at the weekend!

This guy has a huge ceiling imo. He's an extremely graceful dribbler and is able to deftly pass forwards with minimal backlift- both of these traits are a huge weapon in breaking the lines imo. He's better in the middle third rather than the final third as far as I can tell.

However, a few big things he needs to work on if he's going to adapt to the PL: he's honestly not that great defensively- he's not that type of midfielder yet (Amrabat was mopping everything up for him at the WC). As the creative midfielder in a 352 he'd be a great option with a couple of solid types behind him. He could do with packing on a bit more muscle, and he also needs to learn to shoot a bit (not great).

All in all, he's an excellent talent who gives us a great option in a certain type of system, but with a few weaknesses he needs to address imo.

I say buy if the price is right. Exciting player.

I think Sarr is in line for more game time with us so not sure about that.
Interesting as that would almost mean that Skipp is on his way down the pecking order! Shame but I think his injury has really stunted his development!

Isn’t Sarr a different type of player to this guy anyway?
