Can't see it, but I think he'd be an excellent addition, if we were looking to replace one of Trippier or Aurier. Will go to Utd though

No player care about prestige. They want to go to teams that they can improve or win at. I’d say that there are 3 pl teams that players really want to go to atm. That’s city, Liverpool and us

I think that’s too simplistic. Of course money matters - and not just wages.

They’re a massive club who will confidently be able to say that over the next few years, they’ll outspend us massively. At this single point in time, sure, we arguably look more appealing, but for a young player with a longer time horizon, maybe not.

Can you really say we’ll be above them consistently for the next five years? Things can change very quickly. A few good signings and they’d be there or there abouts

All really good points, even if I say so through gritted teeth because I love nothing better than feeling I’m smarter than others.

I think the crucial element here isn’t necessarily how much they spend- they’ve been really good at messing that up the last few years- but who leads them. If they land a quality manager who gives them continuity, structure and vision, they’ll re-emerge as a serious force. Hopefully they keep this element of their game chaotic, enabling us to continue out-punching them until we’re genuine rivals irrespective of who they might eventually employ to manage them

Never send money didn’t matter I said prestige doesn’t matter.

Unless AWB refuses to go to Utd - which he should IMO - then I would imagine Utd will just end up paying the 50m and will sign him which is a shame.

With that said we have to accept that the bulk of our spend is going on central midfielders because we are painfully light in what is arguably the most important position on the pitch. We have to add CL quality players in that position and it's going to cost north of 100m to do it.

I could see us signing a RB but not for 50m. Not in this window anyway. Maybe next summer when we've covered off other areas.

Whether we, as a fanbase, rate them or not, we have 3 right backs and all 3 are capable. I expect we sell Trippier and possibly Aurier, keep KWP and sign someone like Atal who will cost more like 30m and that will be funded by the sales of those 2 players.

Is he worth 50 million though? Hard to know, but better value out there, much prefer Doherty from Wolves, who scores and assists in bag fulls for a right back and you could see thriving at Spurs

Doherty is great going forward. Not seen enough defensively to comment but don’t remember wolves losing by more than the odd goal too many times

Not sure that he would represent value.

He's HG, PL experience and 4 years on his contract at a club that don't need to sell, and have Europa/CL aspirations.

I would imagine they'd want north of £35m or even £40m for him.

So then you look at AWB and say for £10m or £15m more we could get someone who is less experienced, but a lot younger with a higher ability ceiling.

It's a tricky one, with value being really difficult to gauge in today's market, especially when the spectrum of prices for players is so wide. You can pick up a Jack Clarke for £15m and a Neymar for £200m, and everything in-between.

United seem the only club in for him, but as a club we must tempt him, plus he stays in London.
But yeah unlike we pay up that amount

Seems like Palace want all the cash upfront (if you believe the reports), no way we do that.

As far as I can see there have been NO solid links in any form. It's just a player that fans seem to rate so they think the more they post about him the more chance we have of seeing the club signing him.

Ah, the famous thought process of "If the player's thread is nearer the top of the forum list, the deal's more likely". It's like when the Ndombele or Lo Celso threads drift towards the bottom of the page, somebody always bumps them with some nonsense.

Inserts *The fact that I created this thread because we had ITK on him, and Herc has confirmed we won’t spend silly money on him is a joke to you meme*

Decent showing from England U21 players against France, but surprisingly the most errors in giving away possession seem to be by AWB. Not looking a £50m defender on this showing.
