I'm feeling positive heading into this one. I feel like four of our last five or so matches have been against similar sides where we were expected to be ball dominant and had to break down low blocks.

If the lineup is similar to last, I like Timo/Sonny/Kulu on the break against a side that will want to possess in their own right.

With us you never know what's going to happen. We win games we're not expected to and lose the ones we shouldn't. However based on current form Villa should win this and I can see them getting a couple and we seem to score most games so probably one from us. They are certainly the team of the season, if you discount the ARS as I always do and I think Villa will come out on top 2-1.

How many times have we heard "They will be tired after the game in midweek" Only for the opposition to perform better than us.
I think the biggest downside with Europe is the additional exposure to injuries rather than tiredness. We've been unlucky this season with injuries and they have been quite lucky. If the injuries would have been more in line with the amount of games played (for them and us) they wouldn't be anywhere near us IMO.

He's won the Europa League - but the Europa Conference League in which Villa are competing still seems a bit tin pot to me (even with our trophy drought!)
Sorry, my fault! Thought, they were playing Europa League 🥴. But it‘s still Emery.

Haven’t we only lost twice away from home in the league this season?

Believe boys, we got this.
An open game suits us

It seems to be turning into a bit of a grudge match given their arrogance and the recent vitriol on social media between the fans. As others have said, I would love to put them in their place. It wasn't so long ago we smashed them 0-4 with Sonny grabbing 3.

Gonna be a big game for both teams.

I’ve taken Monday morning off work so I can watch, and regardless of the result, I don’t need to go into work fired up (one way or the other).

Games on at midnight in Aus. I usually start at 5:30am…. I need a “mental health day” (Aussie sicky) anyway ….COYS

Sometimes more games works in your favour as you stay in 'game mode'.

I think we are suffering a bit from this as you need games to build chemistry/confidence etc.

We have only played 30 so far. Villa have played 39 and tonight will be 40.

We will have played 41 games in total this season and some of our players will have only played 25-30 of those.

It's not enough to really get this system to click/fire 100%

Chelsea won the title under Conte playing less games but I'd argue that a more defensive system has more success that way as the patterns are less complicated and it's more about exploiting space - fresher to do that. Also, that team had won the title 2 years prior and were already well familiar with one another.

So I wouldn't be surprised to see Villa play better in their system.
I think with these Thurs/Sun Europa/PL fixtures it's not the actual football that has the primary effect but the travelling and disruption to sleep and recovery patterns. Playing in Azerbaijan is two days of plane and coach journies and a 4 hour time difference. Villa played in Amsterdam, which any stag-doer will tell you is barely more than one can of Stella away.

It does be the hope that kills you, but I actually think we'll win this one and fully expecting to have the wife's Mothers Day ruined as a result. Could see the dip in energy levels creeping in recently and when Palace scored last Saturday it was a case of "here we go", but just have a feeling about this one, we owe Villa a good turning over I reckon as we have stumbled against them in recent years when we really shouldn't have.

I think someone else alluded to it, but the only thing I see potentially going against us is the lack of matches could impact our "match fitness". There is a fine line between being match fit and too tired, with perhaps us both falling either side of that fence. Hopefully in training over the last couple of weeks Ange has had them playing full 90 minutes matches, on full size pitches 11v11 a couple of times just to keep the levels up

Huge game. Their style means we will get more opening than the low block, but they are a very dangerous team who will also look to exploit our high line.

Also, much like they did against us earlier in the season, they seem to be able to grind out results too.

Really hope this is the game our midfield properly steps up. Bissouma, Sarr and Maddison back to early season form would make a huge difference.
Lenglet vs Van de Ven I know which High line I would put my money on.

Also Son vs Watkins... Watkins is good but is anyone better at exploiting a high line than Son?
