Was instantly reminded of Devine watching the youtube highlights of this guy. Maybe someone with much more wisdom can easily make clear why Vermeeren is several brackets above Devine, but I couldn't see it.

Vermeeren is much more defensively focused. He’s more a DM/CM. Devine does look to have good passing range to be fair but i don’t think there would be much cross over. I think if he was HG I could certainly see us going for him.

What I find interesting is that according to that article Atleti were not willing to negotiate a loan back so he is actually joining now.

Very different players but who has a higher ceiling Vermeeren or nusa ? The outlay for both would have been north of 60 m this window to not have directly involved .

I see - they didn't really show Vermeeren doing any tackling in the reels I watched, so you mostly saw this ability to instantaneously, unerringly splash it anywhere he wants, via any type of pass, with his strong foot. Which Devine shares. Both of them also just dispatch awkwardly bouncing balls where they want them to go - even if the ball was basically behind where their own momentum was taking them.

Maybe the defensive ability in addition to all that is what costs you double.

Big question that. I’d say they are probably on par with one another. I’d say that Nusa has the greater technical talent but Vermeeren has the greater football intelligence. So they balance out. But both have a shed load of potential. What I would say is that Nusa is by far more valuable to us currently which makes him 100% the right move if we are only getting one.

What I find interesting tho, as I mentioned above, is that Vermeeren is moving now rather than going back on loan. I didn’t realise that was an option.

Im gutted as I think he will become a superstar in the future. Would have given us ridiculous options moving forward but if we are looking at HG then I get it. I imagine Wharton might be a proper target for us.

I think Wharton at Blackburn looks as good, and numerous plus’s for us to sign, perhaps?

I kind of get a feeling we want a HG player for CM. What is surprising is that Atleti could afford him but couldn’t afford to get PEH especially as PEH would probably be cheaper.
probably potential + resale value. with PEH, what you see is what you get. a very good player. but with vermeeren, god knows. a few good games and he will easily be 50+m player. and i completely understand that. if i were them, i would do the same as well. i hate to say it, but age does matter.

Shame to have missed out on him. More than a touch of Frenkie DeJong about him imo. Wharton looks a very decent player too though so I hope we take a punt on him and we have Devine gaining experience too (although a different sort of player), so our MF options going forward would look great with Wharton onboard.

I have never seen Vermeeren play, but let's not forget we have Sarr who is also still very young.

Maybe Vermeeren is nothing like Sarr, so in that case ignore me.

Agree, also the fact he could have joined this window instead of being loaned back until summer makes it a little more disappointing. We must really want a HG player for that last spot which I can understand TBF, it is a fine balance. Ether way im going to be watching how he develops, I think he will do very well in Atleti's system as he will be given quite a prominent tactical role once he has made his way into the first team. As for us pretty good bet that its ether Wharton or Gallagher if we can get them to lower their price.

All things considered (price, age, squad requirements etc), I'd much rather have Wharton and a lump of cash possibly towards a striker at some point. I just can't see where Gallagher fits in without upsetting the apple cart.
