Arteta at Arsenal reminds me a lot of Ole at United, just with lower expectations from the board.

Much like Ole he seems to constantly be fluctuating between good runs and terrible runs, interspersed with the occasional embarrassing beating from a top team, only for his job to be saved by a spirited derby win and beating a few minnows.

The longer Arsenal persevere with him the better as, much like Ole, Arteta's glass ceiling is low enough that they'll never be a true threat. Even thought they look decent at the moment I have absolute confidence that they won't finish 4th (or even 5th) this season - Arteta simply isn't a good enough manager to get enough consistent performances out of their squad to pull it off.

Sounds like he wants to go back to his comfort zone putting out cones and collecting the bibs and balls in after training.

"How many sugars Mr Wenger?"

Ah yes, the infinite Arteta-Solskjaer paradox. Let's hope Arteta can keep his part going, even if the Solskjaer element has now been retired.

Yeah I'm not gonna watch this. Got Arsenal in my acca so probably want them to lose least but they're by far my 2 least favourite teams in the league right now. Including Chelsea and West Ham.

Completely convinced Saka is an average player the flatters to deceive because he moves well. Never seen him actually do anything with the ball that’s made me go wow. His decision making and execution is awful. Obviously still very young but I think he’ll be another Walcott if he’s lucky.

Apparently some controversy over their first goal last night, but I don't have any details? Anyone know?

At a corner, Fred trod on De Gea’s foot. De Gea went down like he’d been shot, meanwhile the ball fell to Smith Rowe who shot through the crowd and scored. De Gea was at fault imo, and the goal stood. Highlights are available on Amazon Prime still if you want to have a look.

Fred trod on De Gea's ankle at a corner and he went down injured. Ball was cleared to just outside the area, Smith-Rowe scored from outside the area while De Gea was lying on the ground injured. Ref hadn't blown the whistle so it's a legit goal.

No no that's fine, and many thanks. I don't watch the goon scum any more than I ever have to.

I see where your coming from.

I think they've got better this season under Arteta. and I think you can see the beginnings of a fresh, young squad with good potential. when i say that, i mean challenging for top 4, not the title.

there's clearly areas they need to spend money on, but i don't think they're the dead duck they were under Arteta last season. perhaps he is learning and improving with them.

Yeah they don't seem to be as bad as we expected unfortunately.

Still, their fans are complaining about Arteta's in game management, his team selection and his tactics of always going defensive after scoring. I think they'll still be capable of losing bad games but are more of a capable team now as Arteta has been able to mould it. But I still think theyll be a little off top 4.

Interestingly their fans are not sold on White or Partey. Apparently Partey has been dreadful and White has glaring defensive weaknesses.

Also, Aubameyang is a shadow of his former self, so they will need a new CF if they are to go far.

Thought I'd reply in here, as it's a bit more relevant.

I don't think they've had any particularly good results, which would act as a barometer of Arteta's ability.

They've lost to City, Utd, Chelsea and Liverpool (and even Brentford!!).

They've drawn with in-form teams they should otherwise beat; Brighton and Palace.

They've beaten underperforming 'good' teams; Leicester and us.

And they've beaten relegation fodder; Burnley, Norwich, Newcastle, Watford and Villa.

It's not really a criticism of them per se; they can only beat who's in front of them.

But I'd like to see how they fair against Wolves and West Ham, and then top half teams in the second half of the season.

They've even got Everton next, who have a much better squad compared to their league standing, so could jam 3pts, but lose or draw in the return fixture, once Rafa has been replaced (or sorted things out).

Tbh, I can see their form dropping off a cliff come Feb and March of next year.

Cheers. That's not a bad shout and a fairly decent analysis, and of course, we're all hoping for the very best and their very worst to happen between now and the end of the season.

They've got a lot of round pegs in round holes - manage to get two contrasting No. 10s into the team in Smith-Rowe and Odegaard, with pace from Martinelli and Aubemayang. Whilst behind them Partey is clearly who they will build around. All of whom have recently signed, and have every reason to be committed. And all of whom are adapted to the league. Everyone of the previous generation of wasters moved on, apart from Pepe.

If Utd had persevered with Ole, the only thing which would have kept Arsenal from finishing above them would have been Ronaldo

Legit 'technically' perhaps but it sounds to me like it was morally disgraceful and devoid of any sportsmanship. Typical goon scum.
