They had a new manager. It was a difficult season for both.
We finished above them and got cl football. But to say they are crap, we weren't much better especially the second half of the season. We need to improve next season.
We do absolutely, I just think the gap was closer due to many factors. When you look at the squads our rebuild us far more straightforward. Improve the full backs and midfield and we are about there. Arsenal need a complete overhaul and don't have the outlay to do it.

Also that was Emery's honeymoon period. They had that wave of positivity but now have realised how things haven't really changed for them. will be on borrowed time if anything goes wrong, the knives are being sharpened already.

Nope. The post i was replying to was saying that arsenal are a total mess etc... yet they only finished 1 point behind us. If you are saying they are a total shambles and are all over the place then we must have been too.

They will improve, we need to.

So how does stating that they were 1 point behind disagree with the fact that they're a total mess?

There's a load of mitigating factors as to why we dropped the ball towards the end of the season which has already been explained.

When you look at the two squads on paper, the amount of work they have to do to rebuild it compared to us and the amount of money they have to spend compared to us, our 'problems' aren't even in the same ballpark as theirs.

As I said...context.

I didn't disagree that they were a bit of a mess. I disagree with the gloating element of it, as we were not much better.

We have 3 of our top players in the final year of their contracts. We have just as much if not more of a rebuild needed.

Just as much, if not more... What! ? Sorry but nowhere near I think you're underestimating the rebuilding job at Arsenal and again they are on a limited budget and are not in the CL.

We can gloat because we finished above them, who cares if it was by 1 point. You actually sound like my Arsenal supporting mate - if you can't gloat then what's the point of even watching football if you can't enjoy laughing at your rivals? Absolute nonsense :ROFLMAO:

I haven't really been gloating. Most of us are just highlighting the absolute mess they are in because it's true. I know we've been scarred in the past so it might feel premature to predict their plight and downfall but if I was an Arsenal fan I'd be feeling a hell of a sight less optimistic than we are right now.

Am I the only one who thought the first part of the article sounded like us? Transfers by committee, taking option C or D because A wasn't available. You can see why Poch refused to sign anyone last summer.

I am :D

Everyone can see what a shit state their squad is in and with their owner unwilling to put more funds in its not going to end well for them.

They're currently in the worst plight of the top 6 teams and that's saying something.

Them improving isn't a certainty. It could cost their entire transfer budget just to replace Ramsey. I think they had four players leave at the end of the season? I'm wary, because they could improve, but it's going to very difficult for them unless they find some absolute bargains.

Celebrate by all means. But we have serious work to do in the next year or so to stay above them and to improve. It looks like we will lose eriksen, verts, toby and possibly rose in the next year. We need to replace them and improve.

Well let's deal with the here and now...the difference is that we haven't lost them yet whilst Arsenal already have lost their best player (Ramsey) which already puts them at a huge disadvantage so whilst it's easy to get worked up by something that hasn't happened yet I'm not going to let a potentially negative situation for us however unlikely it may seem worry me.

A lot of them are in denial. They think they will get a few decent signings and be back up there again. But they are blindingly optimistic, don't know if it's cause they just think they're a big club and it'll turn out alright or not but they should be very very concerned.

Look at their squad now and what will likely remain after the 'exodus'.

GKs - Leno, Martinez
FBS - Bellerin, Monreal, Kolasinac, Maitland-Niles
CBs - Sokratis, Holding, Mavropanos, Mustafi (although they want him out)
DMs - El Neny Torreira
CMs - Xhaka, Guendozi, Willock
AMs - Mkhitaryan, Ozil (although they want both out)
ATts/CFs - Iwobi, Lacazette, Aubameyang, Asano

*I've not accounted for Chambers or Jenkinson as they appear to be forever on-loan....and I'm probably being generous to include Ozil and Mustafi

First of all, that squad is paper thin.

Secondly, out of these players who would you consider worthy of a top 4 team?

Ozil? A luxury player who on his day can be great but hasn't been at his best for years and lacks the intensity.
Lacazette? Yeah, I reckon he'd be a good addition but their are question marks over his mentality.
Aubemeyang? Same as above - although he isn't on Kane or Aguero's level IMO.
Mkhitaryan? Another who lacks consistency and mentality.
Sokratis? Hmmmm, don't think so.
Xhaka? Not disciplined enough.
Torreira? Maybe but he wouldn't be a starter.
Bellerin? Again, crap mentality and he's actually awful defensively.

Everyone of their better players has question marks over mentality or consistency. The rest of that group are distinctively average or poor.

How many players do they need to fix the squad? I'd say 5 or 6 if that bunch of players were competent...... but they're not, which is why they are looking at an ENTIRE squad rebuild.

In the words of Heavy D .....They're f*****!!

That squad looks like ours in the late 90s. Mostly mediocre players with a couple of good ones. Eg. Anderton, Ginola, Ferdinand

I am sure we will purely from having a proper preseason which Poch absolutely requires from his team which would increase fitness and should reduce injuries. On top of that a settled home stadium. Just that should improve us further beyond Arsenal. Then hopefully some great signings to push us even further against the more relevant rivals ;)

I’m not a violent man but if that was my daughter reffing that game and some coach did that to her I’d spark the **** out.

Unless he was bigger than me, obviously.
