The stadium is being built privately,[42] but the developer is seeking significant tax breaks from Inglewood.[43]

The cost of the stadium project was originally estimated to be approximately $2.66 billion upon the commencement of construction. However, internal league documents produced by the NFL in March 2018 indicated a need to raise the debt ceiling for the facility to a total of $4.963 billion, making it one of the most expensive sports and entertainment venues ever built.

Team owners were expected to vote and approve this new debt ceiling at a meeting that same month.[44]

This is the thing. I've seen lots of comments from people applauding this stadium because it's being privately financed rather than being paid for by the local taxpayer, except that actually it is still being paid for by the local taxpayer, just in a roundabout way. They've just worked out a not-really-that-clever way of paying for it indirectly i.e. instead of the local government just handing over a load of money, they're making the owners pay for it up front and then reimbursing them later on in the form of tax allowances. It's hardly something to be applauded like some seem to be, at the end of the day the LA taxpayer is still losing out.

How come arsenal are skint? Isn’t their stadium all paid off now after 20 odd years in the champions league? Or has their owner just had enough?

Kroenke has no interest in Arsenal winning stuff and never has done. He's quite happy as long as they continue to do just about well enough to make a profit and/or be self-financing. They're merely a pawn in his portfolio. For example, he can use them as collateral/leverage in order to secure loans etc. for other projects he wants to invest in. He doesn't give a flying fuck about football or whether or not they win anything. Obviously though, there comes a point where their lack of success will start to negatively impact their financial performance so it's a bit of a balancing act. But any investment he makes in Arsenal will be merely to keep them ticking along, rather than a big investment to make a push for the title etc.

May as well be on AFTV. He's equally as irritating IMO. Fortunately he seems to be fairly obscure/niche rather than a household name like the clowns on AFTV are

He's definitely getting more popular, subs are growing and appearing more on TV and channels as a Spurs rep.

True

He's already made his money back on the share price that he paid for Arsenal, so he must feel pretty pleased with that

Plus the only way Arsenal aren't profitable is if they get relegated; they could be mid-table season after season and he'd still be coining it in.

Got to pay for that new stadium he’s building somehow. A clever approach from him to help fund it.

He’s not enjoying playing for the scum is he. Would be great if they got no money for him initially.

Yeah a loan would be fantastic, because he started to look fairly average in the last months to be honest. I'd be more worried if they sold him and got a good fee to reinvest than if they kept him.

Thought I'd reply to you in this thread...

They've spend 150m in fees and are spending 800-900k per week in wages on the likes of Özil, Mkhitarian, Aubameyang, Sokratis and Koscielny. All above 30, who reperesent little value and are generally on the downward slope of their careers (although some will have a few good years left in them). These guys eat up a lot of the budget with a rapidly diminishing ROI.
They also have some younger players like Guendouzi and Torreira who might develop. But there are no players they could sell now for megabucks to boost their budget for rebuilding the squad.
They will also be massively in the red for the season just finished (prediction of Swiss Ramble). And they've missed out on the Champions League yet again.
The're not in a very good position at the moment. It'l be up to Levy to make the most of this change in fortunes...

All true.

The glimmer of hope that they've got, however, is that Chelsea and Man Utd are weakened and may struggle for various reasons next season. This would allow Arsenal a decent crack at that 4th place and CL revenue.

Tbh, if I was Kroenke (or his business directors) I would seize this window of opportunity and invest in 4 or 5 good players this summer, to give Arsenal the momentum they need to get back into the Top-4 on a regular basis.

To only give your manager £40m to spend while your opponents are on their knees, is a complete joke

This is the sort of thing I'd do when I was 12.

I love the Arabic spelling of his name in brackets in a bid to make the letter seem more legitimate.

Someone's been playing Football manager:sneaky:

It's tricky for him because he obviously doesn't really want to invest in the team and while he probably doesn't really care where they finish in pure footballing terms, if they continually finish outside the CL places then eventually it'll start to hurt Kroenke in the pocket as well.

I suppose it comes down to how you interpret the situation. While you see a weakened Chelsea and Man Utd as an opportunity for Arsenal to invest and capitalise on that weakness, maybe Kroenke sees a weakened Chelsea and Man Utd as an opportunity to get top 4 without needing to invest much.
