“We have two leagues,” Wenger said at his Monday morning press conference. “For example, we had to fight very hard at Stoke and Southampton. But some teams once they are safe have a breather, which didn’t happen 10 years ago. The league has changed mentally. Morally it has changed a lot.”

Asked to expand on what that meant, Wenger promised that he would “explain another time”. But the implication was clear enough: teams do not feel the same duty once they are safe.

“Some teams turn up, some teams are on holiday,” Wenger shrugged in frustration. “It is very difficult to plan. You just want your team to do well and to focus completely until the last. To be professional is to do your job properly until the last second of the season.”

Aw bless. Because West Ham rolled over vs Liverpool? it's the same as Chelsea last year vs us (compared to their other games), Swansea last year vs Leicester (and Southampton as well, I think?), and probably countless other games down the years. If you have to rely on others, then you are in trouble. He has a point that some turn up and some are on holiday but it has always been like this, hasn't it? He just didn't notice when his team was in control.

He also means those teams are unprofessional. Well, yes, that's why Chelsea were so low down last year, Swansea last and this, and West Ham as well. If they were professional enough to fight to the end, they would show the same level of intensity throughout the season and be higher up. It must come from the manager; safe, done our job, go out there and see what happens.

I would like to remind Mr Wenger of his team's 2013 run in.

Arsenal 1-1 Man Utd - After United had already secured the title
QPR 0-1 Arsenal - After QPR had already been relegated
Arsenal 4-1 Wigan - Three days after Wigan won the FA Cup final and had clearly been out celebrating
Newcastle 0-1 - After Newcastle had secured survival the week before

In three of those four games the opposition had literally nothing to play for and if there had been just a single goal swing in any of those games then they would have dropped below us and out of the Champions League places. I still think Bale would have ended up leaving but I think we'd have been able to spend the money better if we had CL football to go with it and they surely wouldn't have signed Ozil if they were only in the Europa League.

If Middlesbrough roll over and die on Saturday then that's justice as far as I'm concerned.

I imagine similar in the new stadium. Arsenal are the most supported club in London along with the day trippers. I can't imagine us beating them on attendance week in week out.

Wembleys a given that we won't.

We will see....

Tony Adams claims Arsene Wenger 'couldn’t coach his was out of a paper bag' after hitting out at Arsenal manager

Writing in his new autobiography Sober, which is being serialised in The Sun, 50-year-old Adams said: "Perhaps Arsene thought I might be too challenging for him.

"He seemed to like an assistant such as Pat Rice or Steve Bould, both great club men who were not going to ruffle feathers.

"Arsene is so dominant that he was probably not going to like it if I said, 'We're conceding bad goals, I'm going to take the back four today and organise them'.

"Because Arsene is essentially not a coach - and that is the second reason why I believe he didn't want me. Back in the day I said in an interview coaching wasn't Arsene's strong point.

"Actually in the original draft, I said he couldn't coach his way out of a paper bag. And though I modified that in the final article, it didn't go down well.

"It all left me feeling that I would never get a chance in any capacity while Arsene was there.

"Much as I respected him for his long and successful tenure, my occasional willingness to pass comment on him and the team probably counted against me."

meanwhile Tony's own stellar coaching career continues to go from strength to strength.

Relegation 20 - Granada
He took over in early April. Played 6, lost 6.

Sums up a lot about Tony Adams as a coach. We have 11 defenders on the pitch and Poch drills them all on defending. When you lose the ball every player in a white shirt knows where they are supposed to be in order to win the ball back. It's not just about your back four.

It wasn't just that. It was a critical time for them paying off the Emirates. There was ITK at the time saying that had they not got champions league that season they would have been in trouble financially for some reason.

Adams is a prick. When he was Wycombe manager he complained that the players weren't as good as him at defending so gave up coaching them. Literally gave up. The man will have no managerial success in his career. Hopefully he becomes the next Arsenal manager!

I hope they get Champion's League again.

That'll keep Wenger and his players there for another season.

Think he's there next year regardless.
I think if Sunday's match was going to be his last game in charge, even Arsenal wouldn't be so classless as to let it happen without so much of a 'thanks' when you consider what he's done for them over the years.
They're hoping for either CL qualification or the FA cup as it would be a better time to announce it, but they'll announce it regardless imo.

Wengers not going anywhere regardless of where they finish. I'd love to see them miss out and lose their best players this summer. Wengers record in the transfer market hasn't been great for a few years now so I'd be quite happy with him trying to rebuild the team.

Sanchez is knocking on Wenger's door looking for £400k per week - his bong eyed team mate won't be too far behind him that's for certain.

Arsenal allegedly earned £53 million from their dashing exploits in the Champions League this current season so they'll lose a large lump of that on those two alone.

Agreed - i'm not sure they have much to build with at present though, which makes the job even harder for Wenger. Their current first team is full of injury prone and inconsistent players. Not to mention not so young ones, who definitely had the raw tools to be good players which Wenger has done nothing with.

I count 4/5 younger players who still have potential to develop into stronger talent.

4/5 genuinely strong players across their first team squad.

A few 'jury's out' ones like Xhaka, Perez & Mustafi.

It's not a position i'd be happy with if i was a fan - however with variations on the above, he's consistently got them top 4 and he may still do it again somehow.

Ozil for me wouldn't get near Sanchez's money, would be hilarious if he did though - it doesn't just come down to his work rate (which for a creative player isn't the be all and end all) but it's his actual end product and motivation - some games he just doesn't seem to do anything.

I've not seen 400k mentioned anywhere. Arsenal got 45m from UEFA last season.
