Of course having an empty stadium gave them a huge advantage - the crowd noise was just what they are used to.

The team with the best player often wins, but the team with the worst player will more often lose.
From the first minute the pattern of the game isolated both Kane and Doherty, meaning we were almost certain to lose. Unless the problem could be rectified.
Almost no manager is willing to change formation so early in a game, much less make a substitution; even when everyone watching can see where the game’s going.
And our over-rated midfield two just don’t have the technique and intelligence to wrest control of the game in those circumstances.

We started off so slowly and passively that I was saying to myself this is going to be explosive once they actually start pressing, countering and

You can argue with Mourinho's approach to the game today, but not his substitutions.

Of course you can Sissoko for Bale didn't change anything he put Sissoko to create a so called double pivot and tried to puh N'dombele forward. It changed the personnel but not the make up of the side - we were getting hammerd throughout the game do you not think that maybe changing the tactics might have been an idea?

Bale is a world class player, even on their off days you keep them on the pitch because they are still able to create or score a goal out of nothing with a moment of quality. Replacing him with Sissoko is not the sub you make if you want to win a match.

If you want to run him in the ground and get him injuries like Son, a far fitter player in general, got, you do that, yes...

not sure I understand what your saying the Sissoko for Bale sub was a poor one what he needed to do was to find a way to get our forwards into the game but as ever his route is to plug the holes which of course is the easier thing to do - but we were getting over run and Bale who was poor but had no service at all was an easy sub to make it and it did little to to change the game and certainy didnt give us any forward momentum. Sorry but I think he had to change the setup not just the personnel I don't think he did that today and that has been the case all season

Hugo said the players went out and played with fear and no freedom ! You can’t tell me that doesn’t come from Jose

Of course it does, he may say he tells his players to attack and they're not following his instructions.
But it's strange we never just sat back like this under Poch, Sherwood or Harry. Wasn't even as cowardly under AVB

Huh? Bale has barely played this season and only came on as sub for 25 minutes in the Europa league on Thursday, how is that being played into the ground? Totally different situation to Son who has played 40 out of 46 matches this season which is ridiculous.

I just find it so weird how we're seemingly so mentally fragile, we had every reason to have a good level of confidence going into this. Are we literally shitting ourselves or being instructed really poorly? It's all so strange. You could tell it didn't look right after 5 minutes today.

Maybe the cowardice comes from knowing if you make a mistake that leads to a goal the 'Special One' will publicly throw you to the wolves.

It was foul after foul, that's why it was a second yellow and not a straight red.
That’s just lamela and that’s why Jose doesn’t start him he always needs to sub him off because he is a red waiting to happen

No idea where to start with that; if Aurier was fit he should've started over Doherty; however Bale should've been working harder to help him out, for the first 45 at least.
Make it to half-time and the sub to make was Aurier for MD.
Even at 2-1 down with 10 men MD when he did advance up the pitch with our players in threatening positions he turns and passes back to a CB! FFS.

By christ the number of players that regularly fail to execute simple passes is doing by head in. What are they drilling on in training?

Sonny has looked knackered for a month and mismanagement of him is borderline as irresponsible for the same reasons as not running Kane into the ground. I've not seen the doc (I'm aware it's not current) but if Sonny's father is still giving him extra sessions then somehow that should being stopped by the club or by Sonny.

Lamela put in a typical Lamela performance, fantastic goal let down by walking a tightrope on a yellow because of how he tackles; they will always look bad to a ref even if they're clean. Just when he starts justifying keeping as a squad player.

Sanchez I don't know what to say; he's improved the last 3-4 games (don't get me wrong he's still doing something iffy once a game) and up until the pen he was possibly our best player (which is damning with faint praise today) then he does that!

Between players and coaching staff they were all bad today. How often do we fail to capitalise on other teams results? FFS they all need a trip to Steve Peters quite honestly!

The amount of pens we give away in big games is just unreal.

• United at OT - pen to go 1 nil down after a few minutes.
• Playing a poor Chelsea at home - pen to gift them a lead which cost us the game
•City away - another pen gift to give us a mountain to climb
• Everton FA cup - another gift to put the tie mostly beyond us
• Home to Leicester in a crunch game - complete brain fart pen which we never recovered

5 huge games where we have imploded. It’s just ridiculous
