Let's not forget that our options for alternative top class midfielders may have been limited with no champions league football. We've forgotten that!
We had one pretty much in the bag but we f*cked that up by not agreeing terms.
I'd love to know the actual terms offered and requested!!

I'd love to know why deadlines were not set for us to determine whether this could or could not be done in order for us to be able to bring in another player with similar qualities but more attainable as a back up option

We are a very tough team to beat now, with dembele and dempsey we have proven great players in the epl. In terms of stats they are right up there at the top (just see how may points dempsey gets consistently in fantasy football). As for dembele, his stats are less visible because his strength is that he hardly ever lose position even in the final third because of his blend of strength, control, touch, and acceleration. They also both are hard workers (i know modric was too but less so for vdv), getting around the pitch with less desperation on their faces than modric and vdv (i also doubted their fitness even for modric)

This is virtually word for word what I wanted to say. We will be more of a team, faster and hardworking and don't agree with those who say we lack creativity. Yes it's a pity about Mourts but I am confident we will be up there again this season. I am sure in time we will see we are stronger.

We missed them too in the 2nd half of the season for the last two years when they decided to not beat Villa, Norwich and various other teams immune to magic
... So you're implying Demsey and Dembelle will solve this??? Look, I think Dembelle is a great signing and can't complain about Demspey but we've just lost 90% of what made us attack the way we have done. We're well and truly allowed to be pissed off here mate. We needed more to soften the blow, for whatever the reason it didn't happen. So yeah... Pissed fucking off.

Erm, Dempsey scored more than Adebayor, let alone VDV, last season. That's why I said goals first. Works his arse off is exactly what VDV does except he knackers himself out by 60mins; Dempsey won't. So on those fronts we've improved.

Obviously he isn't a sexy Dutchmen with a sexy name who used to play for Real Madrid, but can we all come down from Whingeville for a second.

You're wasting your time GP, he's like a broken record of a child who didn't get what he wanted for christmas!

The same people who are saying we lost all our creativity are probably the same people who were complaining about Modric last season, overated, can't shoot, doesn't get enough goals, doesn't assist enough etc etc!

But we're not going to "attack the way we have done". That's not AVB's way. This seems to be a delayed reaction to the overall change we're going through for many

I'm implying on a rainy night in Stoke, yeah, we may not notice VDV and Modric arent there. Shocking I know

But AVB doesn't want us to attack like we used too, which didn't work against teams that parked the bus anyway. He uses pace and the wings a lot more. It is about the team and how they play together, not two talented individuals who didn't (for different reasons) want to play for us.

Quite true, its the other 30 odd games we also have to play, that is quite concerning.

As for how he wants to play not getting JM will be quite a blow to AVB

I'm a bit more optimistic than that

But you're right, the biggest concern is how AVB will react. Moutinho appears to be the only him signing we were ever close to making and we ballsed it up. I just don't get why we wouldn't make this one, of all of them, happen if we were backing AVB

Personally we are massively weaker, people have under estimated the quality we had in Modric Van De Vaart and the mighty Ledley King. None of AVB targets have been met Willian Mouritho we now lack creativity competition up front out wide....We've made a profit though so well done to Levy!!(that's what he likes being a business man) it wouldn't surprise me if AVB comes under intense pressure now as expectation to finish amongst CL points will be seen as crucial but serious questions need to be asked about our policy there seems not to be any real planning come our squad make up just desperation come transfer window time...it's really getting tiring and a bit boring the amount of so called failed bids the club recieve....Levy has hand many window now to perfect and still we're left scratching about till the last minutes this system has to change by Fifa....as it can be aurged the fans have been ripped off ie Van De Vaart changes his shirt no. to 10 now his off, very sad.

If I was AVB I'd start looking for another job frankly. Not DL bashing, understand he's got to take care of the financial side but yeah... Wouldn't blame him.

I'd certainly be asking Levy to downgrade his expectations this season. If we get 5th or 6th with this squad we will have done well.

I don't know. If Rednapp was manager still I would say we are weaker, but I am not sure how the players that left would have played in AVBs system. The real important question is: does AVB think we are stronger or weaker? Frankly at the moment our opinions do not matter.
