Simple question.

And a third option for those of you that want to sit on the fence.

we didn't replace our 2 world class players, weaker every day of the week for me. ( However, i'd concede that Dembele could turn out to be indispensable like either of those 2 and lloris is a world class keeper which was a major coup.)

Can we really answer this just hours after the transfer deadline? Only time will tell

We are a very tough team to beat now, with dembele and dempsey we have proven great players in the epl. In terms of stats they are right up there at the top (just see how may points dempsey gets consistently in fantasy football). As for dembele, his stats are less visible because his strength is that he hardly ever lose position even in the final third because of his blend of strength, control, touch, and acceleration. They also both are hard workers (i know modric was too but less so for vdv), getting around the pitch with less desperation on their faces than modric and vdv (i also doubted their fitness even for modric)

I prefer the second team. Mainly because Parker and Friedel are players who frustrate me and I think Dembele and Siggy can become as good as Modric and VDV respectively. Also we have another player besides Adebayor who can play up top and score goals. Defoe doesn't work as the second choice striker in the system we are trying to play.

Look at the second team, and then look at the Newcastle team which finished a couple points behind us. They didn't have great players in every position but they have a class goalkeeper and strikers, and we were missing that although we have at least rectified that problem.

Mightily disappointed to miss out on Moutinho but on the other hand this team is only 1 player away from being top class and if we can hang on and get good results until January maybe we can finally complete the team and get the player we need in.

Not only are we weaker, but the spine has been ripped out. Even if some of these Dembeles and Siggys can light a candle to Modric and VDV, they will take time to gel and that is time we don't have with 1 point from 6 so far.

Harry played Parker whenever he got the chance. AvB won't have the same undying love for him, so there's at least the chance of a slight upgrade there if Sandro can hit top form and hold it to have the kind of season we think he's capable of. Not that it's easy to predict which one of them should be getting the nod whenever it comes to it.

We are Definately weaker given the level that modders played at. There is a reason be was £30m. VDV is an incredible talent and can pass as well as anyone and was the best finisher in the squad. Said to see him go for no reason other than money. There is still hope for this team and TBH we should have expected it having missed out on CL again. If only Harry had pushed for a winner against Villa this could all have been so different.

Can I add that Lloris is a fantastic signing.

Significantly weaker. Modric and Vdv are truly special players. These 5 points dropped will come back to bite us at the end of the season.

Lennon and Defoe are also in the mix, which the starting 11's illustrated ignore.
Sprinkle in the squad players: Jenas, Bentley, Huddlestone, Livermore, Carroll, Parker, Townsend. We just don't know what kind of development AVB could make with them. New managers always seem to turn at least one player around, who failed in the previous regime.

Agree but this team has been one player away for to long, the first team posted has more balance and flair and if you replace Lennon with hazard and Parker with say lass diarra two players we may have if we hadn't messed up 3rd then all the difference.

The second team you can upgrade the majority

We are weaker but losing King, Modric and VDV at the same time meant coming out stronger was almost impossible.

Hopefully the new signings are more suited to AVB's playing style and we can start to rebuild.

I can see how it happened but I think it was a disgraceful window. Are you telling me there isn't a player in the whole of europe that is available that could play the deep lying playmaker role? Not one bloody player?

I think that the main issue is that we lost 3 world class players through no real fault of our own, but we had the entire summer to fix it.

I really like all of the players we have bought and think they will all bring something to our team, but we no longer have that quality that we had before. No cover on the wings, no creative midfielder.

We will see but this point in time I am very disappointed indeed.

Levy sold AVB out.

Modric out for 32m Dembele in for 15m

VDV out for 10m Dempsey in for 6m

Lloris is a great signing though.

The club has made a financial profit in exchange for weakening the first 11. Sorry if you are trying to stay positive but the situation is no different to when Berbatov went for 30m and the most Levy was willing to spend was 14m on Pav to replace him. If you want top class players you have to pay for top class players. The club charges top class ticket prices and talks about signing top class just to keep the fans on the hook.

Personally, I'm still a Spurs fan but really not that bothered with watching what is now a dismantled version of what was so nearly the best Spurs team in my lifetime. Levy needs to hire a DOF or be honest about his intentions.

Let's not forget that our options for alternative top class midfielders may have been limited with no champions league football. We've forgotten that!

The players we bought were all good (no Nelsens or Sahas in sight), but we seem to have sold a lot of squad players without replacing them

An injury to Dembele or one of our 3 attacking players and we're looking a bit thin on the ground - our bench is going to look a bit shit this year, tbh

My main concern, however, is that we only ever seem to spend what we make from player sales. I'm pretty sure over the last 4 or 5 seasons we've actually broken even or perhaps made a profit

With transfer fees and wages taken into consideration, I would have thought we'd have an extra £20m to £30m available over this period - where does the money go?

The squad?

Weaker.

And how anybody can say otherwise is just sugarcoating.

However, i'll try and be optimistic and say that the players we've brought will do well.

We'll see how we'll cope WITHOUT a Modric replacement and we'll see how we cope without sufficient cover on the wings (Dempsey is good but we needed added pace IMO).
