Only Spurs fans could take a link to an exciting player and extrapolate it into our manager potentially leaving us because our chairman will deliberately mess with the deal to stop us signing him.

We seem to suffer from collective catastrophic thinking

Can't see it happening if we don't sell them at least one of Rose or Dier. Would be a PR gaffe after years of nicking our players, and Jose saying publicly it's no longer possible, to then have their players nicked by us. They don't need the money

Fairly sure this is just us very publically naming our price for Rose. can't see anything coming of it, but worth a go i suppose.

I suppose it would give us a "why would we sell to you when you wouldn't sell to us" stance if needed.

Levy did string AVB along, I think we all can accept that regardless of how much we liked or didn't like AVB or like or don't like Levy.
I don't know about stringing him along. Levy tried to get the players AVB wanted(and infact got some). The problem was some of them were just out of our reach and AVB refused to name alternatives, so we spent too long chasing rainbows, and in the end bring in players others put forward because AVB only asked for one name in each position. I guess to some point it was stringing him along because we should have told him sooner the likes of hulk was just not feasable.

Apparently Utd have gone back in for Perisic, could free up Martial?

Also tomorrow could be a big indicator, if he doesn't play any part against the Spammers tomorrow it's safe to say Mourinho wants to see the back of him.
Would mean a swap deal of sorts with Inter would be more likely imo.

This is not wasting our time.
We are messing with united for tapping Rose. And if it miraculously gets accepted we get a great signing. It's a win win situation. It's a great move by Levy.
We can still go for another target at the same time too

I'm not convinced.

Levy is the man who has the final say on all these decisions, and clearly this Martial thing is something he's been thinking about recently.

It's a completely pointless exercise. It won't happen (Rose or no Rose) and if this isn't the end of it, the weeks will slip away and Poch will be told 'we did try our best for Keita and Martial, but we couldn't get it over the line. Here's Josh King for £20m on £50k per week instead.'

Levy's not stupid. He knows what he's doing by going for the impossible. He's playing with fire though, Poch won't put up with it.

I always got the impression that his entire plan revolved around Moutinho, but I could be wrong.

You might well be right. A coach that can't adapt is never going to make it in the premier league though, is he.

Is this Martial thing just a load of bollocks then?

I don't think so. He won't join us so no need to get excited but like Ossie85 said - it's a win win. We could probably just about afford him so at best he does come. At worst we give Utd a taste of their own medicine and not in a plucky underdog jokey kind of way.

Nope. That's what was said to have happened. The deal was on, Moutinho wanted to come, and Levy deliberately started messing around with the details of the contract to ensure it didn't go through.

Obviously AVB stayed on for a year, but if you can recall his quotes after he resigned, that's what he was referring to.
Like I said then, it wasn't the sole contributing factor. Had it been the only reason AVB left, he surely would have left straight after.

1. Secure Sanchez and Barkley imminently. All stories suggest this is being worked on.
2. Then if Utd come sniffing round Rose, we demand Martial and Shaw, or no deal.
3. Try and secure a RB - Poch's comments about KWP suggest this is still a priority.
4. If part 2 didn't come off, try and secure a pacy WF, I reckon Keita Balde could now u-turn.

I think the money is there, based on what we have sold so far, and the fact Wimmer is likely to raise even more. What will be more of an issue is time, do we have time to do all the work required to successfully bring in 4 new players, 5 including Gazzaniga.

Lloris, Vorm, Gazzaniga
Trippier, Pereira/Heinrichs?, Walker-Peters
Rose/Shaw, Davies, (Pereira/Heinrichs)
Alderweireld, Carter-Vickers, (Dier)
Vertonghen, Sanchez, (Davies)
Wanyama, Dier
Dembele, Winks, (Barkley)
Lamela, Sissoko?, Martial/Balde?
Eriksen, Barkley
Alli, Son, Nkoudou
Kane, Janssen, (Son & Martial/Balde?)

Definitely better balance and depth.

Potentially will we see the Right Back issue left unaddressed, based on Sissoko, Walker-Peters and Dier able to cover RWB and RB between them. Poch did state Walker-Peters wasn't quite ready yet, so will we buy, or work within what we have. Bringing in one of Pereria, Heinrichs or Toljan would also provide added LB depth, which in turn allows Davies to be LCB cover if we go three at the back.

If its real interest, we'll more than likely make another bid. If its not then I'm wearing a "In your face" grin.

It'll be a poch target surely.....all I read before the transfer window opened was "Poch is totally in command of transfer targets".
and outgoings.

It's a World Cup year and United also want Perisic. He also had difficulty adapting to Mourinho's system last year so I can see why he wants to leave at his age and with his talent. I'd swap him for Rose in a heartbeat.
