Gardner is great when his role is simplified. Next to King or back when we played with 3 CB's and his partners were any 2 from Richards and King or Bunjie, he was great at playing the quick forward. He suffered when we went 442 and king was injured and Richards ill/retired, becasue he was often left with the young Doherty. Gardner himself then got injury prone and his chances were laterly restricted to time when King was injured and played with Dawson (another player who's not a senior CB).

Tony until 19 was a cf so his positioning and undersatnding of the CB role was always going to be behind players of his age that have been groomed for that role since they were 11. I think thats also why he isn't a great timer of the defensive header of the ball despite eing 6ft7. If he'd been highlighted as a CB sooner in his developement i think he would have been a really realy good player.

I'll second the Mcleod tackle

Someone once told me the art of defending is to foul someone while looking like you are not fouling. Gardner manages to not foul people while looking like he is. (See S.C. Braga.)

I think about 3 years ago he was starting to cut out on some of his mistakes and lapses, but with the injuries he has had it is no surprise that he lacks consistency in his game. I hope he can finally stay fit and do a solid job for Hull.

This is from Tribal but it has actual quotes

Hull City boss Phil Brown has revealed they're signing Tottenham defender Anthony Gardner on-loan. The 27-year-old centre-back, who has been capped once by England, is scheduled to undergo a medical at the KC Stadium on Friday.

"There's lots to be done but we've agreed terms of a loan [until January] with a view to a permanent deal," Brown told BBC Radio Humberside.

"The original asking price was a little bit rich so we backed off, but the asking price has come down a wee bit."

To be honest this is a transfer that should have happened 6 years ago. Useless lanky injury and f**k up proned defender that has outstayed his welcome by 5 years at least.

I'd have given him away, let alone pick up two and a half mill for him.

Out with the dead-wood!!!!

:stupid:

Six years ago he was still looking very promising.

Ok, maybe my comments were a bit harsh but that's how happy I was to see him being shipped out at last.
We've nurtured this guy for so long and I've never seen us be so patient with any player for such a long length of time.

I wasn't sad at all to see him shaking hands with people at the Lodge once he knew he was on his way, and to be honest he himself is looking forward to playing first team football, I think he just wanted it to be with a better club than Hull City.

The BBC have this on their list of confirmed transfers (as a loan) but there's no article so far.

Why can't we just sell him?

Good luck to him, hope he performs well so we can get a fee next summer.

I thought this was a loan with a view to a 2.4m permanent, which is a step up from his previous loans.
