skysports.com understands Premier League new boys Stoke are lining up a move for Tottenham defender Anthony Gardner.

The 27-year-old is well down the pecking order at White Hart Lane after failing to convince Juande Ramos of his ability.

Gardner spent the second half of last season on loan at Everton but saw his stay at Goodison Park blighted by injury and he never made an appearance for the Toffees.

The big defender is now back to full fitness and is planning a move away in search of regular first team action.

The news has alerted Stoke boss Tony Pulis, who is thought to be a big fan of the former Port Vale star.

Pulis is keen to bolster his defence ahead of next season in the top flight and is ready to offer Gardner the chance to get his career back on track at the Britannia Stadium.

I hope he goes, still in the premiership and a real chance to get a good amount of games (if injury free).

Always liked Gardner, he just needed a few games to get back up to pace.

That's his home patch too so would be an ideal move. If he stays fit and focussed and gets his games in there's a good chance that Stoke won't necessarily be his last stop either.

Wonder whether the Stoke fans will be happy having a former Vale player on the books?

Footballing-wise though, it would be a good move for all parties.

I don't think they can be too fussy tbh

gardner is a player who had it all in the physical sense but lacked the concentration required. a lot of good defenders who lack this tend to breakthrough later in their careers, like dunne, distin etc.
i fully expect him to play really well and become a good performer for them. especially since they'll rely on him heavily.
hope we give dawson and kaboul the training to develop quicker

TBH I was always impressed with TG when he played alongside Ledley. He did spend a lot of his Spurs career next to the likes of Doherty and Richards next to who anyone would look shaky. Gardner and Dawson did not work either. He has genuine pace and I think in a way it is a shame that he has not been given a chance next to Woodgate who is calm and assured like Ledley.. I think he would be beter there than Dawson because he is quicker and as for lapses in concentration Kaboul is guilty of far more. I also think he is better than Rocha.

I'll always remember him for his performance alongside Ledley in the 5-1 semi win over Chelsea.

I love big TG, he's been so loyal yet so unlucky, I hope he gets a move because he's wasted with us, unfortunately for him we are above him now.

Hull City boss Phil Brown has confirmed the club's interest in signing Tottenham Hotspur defender Anthony Gardner. Brown is keen to strengthen his back-line ahead of the new Premier League season, and he has identified Gardner as a transfer target for the summer.
The 27-year-old centre-back is expected to soon leave White Hart Lane after failing to secure a first-team position under manager Juande Ramos.
Gardner is now back to full fitness, and Brown has revealed his interest in purchasing the former Port Vale man - who is also a reported target of fellow promoted side Stoke City.
"There's interest from us," Brown told the Hull Daily Mail.
"The lad's got a proven Premier League pedigree and is available at the right transfer fee.
"How far we take the interest will be decided more than anything on if he wants to come up here. But we have made it clear to him and his club that we are interested.

Just saw this on Big Tony

If he can stay uninjured, he'll be a fantastic buy for either Hull or Stoke. Sure, he's had his share of horror moments, but when he first arrived he looked every bit as good a prospect as Ledley—and if it hadn't been for his being continually crocked he might have become just as good. It's salutary to remember that in seven seasons he's had fewer appearances than Dawson has in three.

My favourite Big Tone moment? Against MK Dons two seasons ago, when he chased down McLeod and whipped the ball off his feet as easy as kiss-my-hand. OK, McLeod is hardly Torres, but he's a nippy little bugger and he would have been clear through on goal otherwise, and we'd have looked very silly. It wasn't quite on a par with Ledley's similar tackle on Robben, but pretty damned good.

Anyway, good luck, Tone—when you've been fit, you've been a good servant to the club. And it's a credit to the club that they've kept faith with him.

Sad to see Big Tone leave but its better for all if he goes now. He can be absolute quality given a run of games, Id like to see him go to a half decent prem team like fulham or boro. He should and could be a starter CB for most clubs in the bottom half of the table if he can stay fit.

If he'd had the run of games dawson has the last 2 yrs he'd be better than daws and we'd be keeping him!

I was a fan of TG even got called up for england once if I remember under Sven.
Also though at Birmingham away a couple of seasons ago the Zulus were giving him a load of grief and calling him a rapist?? Is that due to the article in the sunday tabloids a couple of years back saying Big Tone was involved in a few "roasting" sessions or is there another incident??

Anthony Gardner

Looks like TG is off to Hull for 2.5 mil. If true I think Damien Comolli can expect a visit from the plod for theft !
