I get the people worrying that we're buying two wing forwards but not a centre forward but if the WFs are good enough and we're not convinced by available CFs it's right not to get one.
From my point of view Fati is surely worth the proverbial punt.

Spurs stepping up Fati talks | Johnson, Bakayoko interest remains

Tottenham are stepping up talks over a potential loan for Ansu Fati at Barcelona but remain in the race for Nottingham Forest striker Brennan Johnson and PSV Eindhoven winger Johan Bakayoko.

Spurs are lining up deals for their three forward targets before seeing which one emerges as the best option ahead of Friday’s transfer deadline.

However, the club are currently three players over the 25-man requirement for the Premier League squad list so outgoings remain their priority.

There are also other factors to consider and obstacles to overcome with all three of the potential deals for a new versatile forward.

Johnson is the top target but they must weigh up potential expenditure of more than £40m on a player who would not assured a first-team place right away.

With Fati, a loan would only suit Barcelona from a Financial Fair Play standpoint if all of his significant wages are covered and, for a permanent deal, they value him at around £30m.

Has anyone else linked us to Bakayoko or is it just Lyall?

Ange clearly rates Perisic a lot so I doubt he goes. Gil has to go on loan tho at least. Absolutely pointless keeping him on the bench. Regardless what one thinks of Gil I really feel sorry for him, he's been handled awfully since he's been here. Hardly had a sniff and has spent most of his time on the bench before getting sent off on loan halfway through a season twice in a row. No wonder he hasn't developed how we would have hoped.

Will anyone take him when he's out injured recovering from surgery? Don't think he's due back until October is he?

Not seen this guy much isn’t he quite injury prone? After last nights result a bit of trust has gone for Ange how he played the team he did was he not shown the last 10 years where we purposely weakened to “rest” players. If we lose Saturday normal service resumed.

Perisic has his benefits. He's probably the only bench player who we have that you can guarantee will provide at least one bit of quality if he is called upon. His issue is that he just cannot play a full game at a high tempo anymore, and turns to shit.

If we're looking at this season in isolation I'd definitely keep Perisic as a bench option ahead of Gil. However I do agree that for one reason or another Gil hasn't really had a chance to impress, and if he was to go permanently we'd be thinking about what might have been.

I still wonder and saw (on Twitter) some more familiar with Fati saying he could also be an option as a False 9 due to his ability to combine in and on top of the box, and being a good finisher.

It really seems that Ange only wants Richarlison (Veliz longterm) as an out an out #9 and that other than that we will be fluid in terms of a front three or there's no gettable #9 at this point in time.

We can sit here all day and say the depth chart is player 1, player 2, etc. But it will be interesting if we get both Fati and Johnson to see how Ange uses our forwards over the next few months
I mentioned in a previous post that long term I think he becomes like a second striker/shadow striker who drifts off the shoulder of a more physical CF who is drawing in the defenders. Yesterday when we swapped to more of a 442/424 in the second half could work well for him just sitting off Richy. Personally I don't think he has to physicality to play as a false 9 by himself in the PL. Maybe in a few years possibly. It would take some adapting tho. Essentially you don't want defenders to be focussing on him too much.

Gone back last few pages and can't find this. Marca is the club's mouthpiece isn't it? Definitely seems to me that Barca are trying to Control the narrative to their fans so that there isn't a massive backlash for selling a prized young talent. "Sure what could we do he wanted to leave, don't blame us blame him for not wanting to fight for place".
Barca are very good at this. I was dismissive of this happening but with WLB info and all the media stuff we obviously have a big chance of getting him

I think Perisic has a key role to play for us this season personally and the only individual, even if Fati comes on board, in that he will stay wide left and put a decent delivery in.

Like you I cannot see where Gil fits if Johnson and Fati come in and unfortunately opportunities in football is very much being in the right place at the right time and with this injury curtailing a pre season and unable to impress Ange, I can't see him now affording him any more time as we need to make decisive action now in recruitments.

Comparing Maddison, a proven top PL player who was their player of the season, and Johnson, who was excellent in the Championship and fairly average in the Prem, isn't a valid comparison.

I don't think anyone should have any problem signing players from relegated or lower level clubs if the player is a standout player who can really elevate us. That doesn't mean you should be shopping at those clubs regularly for players who don't quite fit that criteria.
You mentioned “relegation” to make a point. I countered that to make your point carry less weight. Would say it was a successful counter - AC would be proud.

I must say it is a little crazy that we are going for two WF and not looking at any CF be it an established one even a younger option like Orban or Marcos Leonardo. I get that Orban was probably over priced in the end and i know we have Veliz but he is clearly not a player we are going to see much of this season. I'm just concerned about going through the season with Son and Richy as our CF's. Our front line does need work in general tho so i guess its about the options available.
Random point, but I’m personally very much against the general consensus on Marcus Leonardo now.

Don’t think he will be able to hack prem defenders at all. There’s some links to West Ham atm, so would be interested to see how he’d do there.

I think you right and there probably aren't any strikers we really like available this summer coupled with how much we only just spent on Richy. I get it of course but Im still concerned by what i've been seeing thus far from Richy. I guess ultimately we think there are more attractive options on the wing this window do decided to focus there as ether way it will need to be looked at at some point soon. I hope this approach pays off.
Doesn’t matter who scores but we need to create going forward to put the ball in the net. Previously Kane and Son have worked together to get the goals and now we have no Harry. How many times have we said in the past ‘where would we be without their goals?’.
I think it’s becoming clear that Ange wants the goals coming from everywhere. We’re gonna have a much stronger top 13/14 players and the rest, after last night we can see they’re pretty much dead meat, as we all know they have been for years. Ange now knows that is definitely the case.
Think I’m starting to get it……….maybe 😂

fun fact his brother played for biggleswade united a couple of seasons ago beacuse they are owned by guillem ballague. He was shocking even at local level. But I wonder if he stayed local somewhere could help him settle if he has family closeish by already.

Apparently his brother is still there. A surprise plus for our pursuit

The injury and Barca willing to sell has me nervous tbh.

That's the paranoia of being a spurs fan I guess. On loan definitely reduces the risk though.
