I thought it was time he got his own thread. So what do we think of him?

Is he one who will be in and around the team but end up at a mid table prem club or can he be genuine competition for Bale & Lennon?

I think he looks really promising and I am glad he is getting a chance. Pace to burn as well as ability on the ball. Seems he can finish too! I have a good feeling about him.

I like the fact that he's more direct than Lennon. Much more goal threat about him. I think he can be a good player for us.

my mates that follow leeds said he was head and shoulders above anyone else on the park when he was there last season. so he can do it at championshiplevel so hopefully he can step up.

think this will be his yeasr to make his mark. think he will be the player to replace bale or lennon if they get injured and saver us 2o million or not.

Could be another loan to a premiership team come January if he doesnt get many minutes between now and then, half a season playing regularly at PL level will do him the world of good.

I agree, Walker's loans to QPR and then Villa seemed to do him a lot of good so if Townsend is not getting much playing time for us by then I would like to see him make a loan move somewhere like Norwich or Swansea to get regular football in our league to see what he is really made of

For me he's always been our most promising youngster. He's always lit up the pitch when che comes on.

I saw Rose and Townsend as our future left-side. i know Rose isn't that popular here but I still think he can come good. Even not Naughton has improved. Townsend will definitely be taking us forward.

I wasn't sure on him at diet but I have been quite impressed with him lately, I think he needs to take his chance now and show what he is made of. He should be challenging Lennon for that position, if he does it could save us a lot if money as well, he needs to get to the byline more as with Lennon.

I want him to get a start in the PL over Lennon against some weaker competition to see how well he fares. I think his play looks much more well-rounded than Lennon, but it's truly hard to tell given the fact that he's played against lesser competition, or he's come on late in matches when defenders are surely tired.

give him a go in place of bale, might do them both some good.

Errr I can see the fans and media taking to that. Why don't we treat him like any other up and coming player and use him as an effective sub for the player who is most deserving of being replaced (tiredness, form etc). Or is that a little too radical?

Him and Caulker will be the two that are head and shoulders above the rest of of of youngsters. Two excellent prospects.

This...he is always direct and very driven. I know it's a bit of a cliché, but he really is looking to make things happen all the time, which is something I thing we need at times.

Still, early days, and may benefit from a loan in Jan is he isn't getting much game time.

Interesting to note if Harry was still here, Townsend wouldn't be. He looks a quality prospect but Harry was ready to get rid.

What makes you say that?

It was widely reported. Apparent bust up or something. He was apparently offered to Birmingham in direct exchange for Redmond, also a left footed winger.

Was widely reported and discussed on here also, will try and dig out some reports / threads. However it is something I clearly rememeber that Harry didn't rate him, didn't like him and was ready to shift.

I thought Townsend was right footed but strong with both, could be wrong though!

I like,

Excellent squad option from the bench and for rotation ....if Stewart Downing is worth 20M Jeez we've saved because I think Townsends better than him.

As I said in the match ratings thread after the Lazio game, I personally think he's looking a more talented footballer than either Walcott or Oxlaide-Chamberlain at the moment. Every time I see those two play I see them making huge amounts of basic errors in control, passing, and finishing. Townsend has demonstrated that he can do all those things well so far and looks just as quick as either of them.

I can't wait to see him properly come through and hopefully he will prove me right in the long-term. He's hugely promising though and negates the constant screams from the fans that we desperately need to go out and buy a winger.

As a bonus, he can play on either side with equal effectiveness which is very rare.
