We're gonna have to sign 6 or 7 players to hit the 150m predicted spend if this is level of player we're looking at.

Starting to think maybe Toby is staying and thus we've lost £60m ish from our transfer budget.
If we genuinely were going to be spending 150m then we wouldn't be going for 25m players, we only needed 3 signings. They needed to be 3 quality signings, this if true would make me think we're trying to fit signings around whatever the sales are bringing in, minus Toby.

Has it been confirmed that Plea is definitely a Martial alternative? I haven't watched a lot of him since his injury.

I wouldn't be surprised if the club were going for the cheap punt option yet again but it is conceivable that he's simply a Llorente replacement.

Still, it'd be pretty pointless to bring Plea in if we were getting Martial.
The first time it was reported we we're in for him said that he's plan B to martial.

25 years old and has suffered two major knee injuries, ACL in 2015/2016 and a meniscus tear which kept him out for the last 4 months of 2016/2017.

No thanks.

I'd guess he's a back-up plan, should we not get Martial.

Just because we "have indeed" bid (if we actual have), doesn't mean we're buying him.

I mean, no offense to the guy but I really hope this is, at best, a back up plan or something to suggest we have alternatives.

I just cannot get excited about this. I've never really seen him, but we should surely be aiming higher than this?

If that's the case then it's 100% BS.No way Levy gonna pay that much money for a player with weak knees.

Yeah we should be aiming higher for sure but I think it's probably unfair to label him as an Njie or Nkoudou. Scored 21 goals in all comps last season.

To be fair i've said all along that the money needs to be spent on the midfield and that only a backup option was needed up front. I do take exception to Martial though. A. because of his talent and B. because he could operate as a striker option eliminating the need for an out and out Kane backup.

Could it be that in the same way players use clubs to get better deals, we're using this to force the Martial deal?
I guess if Martial hands in a transfer request then that would be some sort of indication

.............or maybe the hope has really gone to my head :cautious:

If this guy is our back up to Martial then what they hell does our scouting system get paid to do? Really hope this isn’t true.

It's understandable that people believe it. What does history tell you about our transfer dealings? Linked to/drag out a transfer for an important player only to end up signing a similar but less good cheaper alternative.

……..after somebody else has nipped in, paid close to the asking price and got a deal sorted in no time for our primary target.

Amazing many of the posts in thread in response to an article which has no support whatsoever from reputable sources such as our ITKs. Rather silly.

Really not fussed if this means plans have changed and Kovacic would be our big summer signing. Kovacic + Plea and keeping Toby/not selling him to United makes us a much better team for next year.
