But the ultimate aim has to be to win it, and not just win it, but win it with style. I guarantee the players and fans will enjoy that a thousand times more than just being part of the competition.

I don't think anyone is arguing with that

National football is slightly different, because you are constrained by national boundaries, so the expectations of smaller countries have to be constrained as well, where club football is concerned nowadays there are no such limitations.

I disagree. We are still new to all of this Champions League stuff. Of course we want to win it. Of course we'll do everything in our powers to win it. It's just bloody unlikely compared to the chances of more established CL clubs. Even Fergie has 'only' won it twice in nearly 20 years and that's a mighty achievement.

Let's not forget that the mighty Arsenal had to qualify last season in a play off against Celtic.

If we don't win the CL, then by my reckoning, that puts us on a par with Arsenal and Chelsea - don't seem to remember either of them winning the thing.

That's why I posted this...

You won't beat us. You won't get 4th. You won't make the Group Stages. You won't win in the Group Stages... BEEP BEEP BEEP! Watch out people, Gooners are reversing...

:)

Good thread JG, it's so nice to be able to sweep away everything every hurdle that other fans/pundits put in front of us, I've always been an optimistic fan but now Spurs are really matching my optimism.

It's a new Spurs that I've never seen in my lifetime, we just get things done, and often done well, I just hope we can keep this up.

We're new to the competition and can go in with a small club mentality and enjoy it. Like Dougal touched on earlier the Irish and also the Scottish really hope for qualification for major tournaments and then enjoy themsevles as much as possible before the inevitable disappointment and going home.

England and the fans don't seem to enjoy themselves as much as they are so tense and worried about winning it.

Obviously we want our players to give it their all and the manager to go into it with all his enthusiasm but we should enjoy this occasion whatever happens.

I can already see us losing at the Nou Camp and reading how Harry is too tactically inept to compete with the big boys.

I'd love to see Bluemoons 'lucky spurs' thread, if we draw, Lyon, Panathinaikos and Bursaspor
