Surely more embarrassing for those clubs who quote a massive attendance based on ticket sales but then the TV cameras show huge masses of empty seats?

The capacity thing is nothing new... all big sports venues will have a maximum capacity and then a range of event day capacities. Rather than quoting the full range of event capacities it's simply easier to quote the maximum capacity, and it's the simplest way to compare stadium sizes.

I agree that Levy is far too sensible to have gambled it all on us being in the CL. Obviously we're not suddenly going to go bankrupt if we miss out on the CL. However, in terms of our progression as a football club it'll be a disaster if we drop out of the CL. We're currently right in the middle of a process of establishing our credibility as one of the big boys of PL football and I think being in the CL every year is absolutely essential to us achieving that.
Disastrous might be stronging it a little. Certainly unhelpful, but not disastrous.

I'm not so sure. With the timing of it with regards to some of our key players' contract still being up for renewal and needing to invest seriously in certain positions, I think not finishing top 4 this year could really affect us. Also would be a problem for Levy who is presumably in the middle of trying to sort out naming rights and all that off the back of all the publicity surrounding our new stadium. I think if we miss out on top 4 this year it could be hard for us to recover from. We'd likely lose players and then have even less money to replace them with. If Poch is desperate to really use the stadium move as the catalyst to become a really big club, how is that going to tie in with us having a smaller naming right deal, no CL money, less brand exposure and all that stuff? I don't want to be pessimistic but I think missing out on CL next season could potentially be the beginning of our recent progress starting to unravel.

Well I'm glad no-one's over-reacting. How will it be a disaster? Of course we want CL every year. We are not going to get it every year. 4 spots, two big teams will miss out, we are the 6th wealthiest club in that top 6. We survived without it. We sold out WHL without it, we progressed before it was a regular thing. We will fill the stadium for nearly all matches every year. Don't under-estimate how big we are...

Only Spurs fans could turn something positive, world class, the envy of the footballing world, taking us up a notch in terms of what we can pay players... and focus on a negative which may not happen. Lol.

By the way, a bit of a moan, but last Wednesday, first game at the new stadium. There is a group of blokes, mid thirties I'd say, standing around in a group eating and drinking, spilling huge amounts of beer on the floor, dropping/chucking ketchup on the floor, chips etc etc

I was standing next to them with my drink, just thinking do people literally have no respect? This is a brand new stadium, I get it, accidents happen, but this was just a lack of respect and care. I was amazed at the complete disregard for the new floor and surroundings. They were treating the place like a dump. After they'd left the floor was a mess of ketchup, chips and beer. Unbelievable.

Am I the only one who gets fucked off with twats like this?

Well, I say not disastrous because the plan was always to build the new stadium and then work on being a regular CL club. Obviously, plans will change, but I would imagine that for a project of this magnitude, currently being in the CL would still be considered a bonus rather than a necessity.

I'm really positive about the new stadium. This has nothing to do with that. But I think some clubs can afford to miss out on the CL and others can't. We haven't yet truly established ourselves as a CL level club. We're still a work in progress in that regard. We've now got a stadium fitting for a massive club, but we haven't established ourselves fully on that level yet so missing out on CL will undo a lot of progress we've made. Man Utd can afford to miss out for a couple of seasons because they're still Man Utd. They've got enough credit in the bank in terms of prestige and cash to still attract the best players etc. We don't have that luxury.

From a business perspective I agree. Like I said in my other post, there's no way a businessman like Levy has gambled everything on us being in the CL, so from that perspective it's not a necessity. But in order to keep on with out current rate of progression i think it is necessary. Disaster is probably the wrong word but it would have a big impact on us footballing wise IMO and would be a massive shame not to be able to build on all the hype surrounding the stadium.

Oh sure, for definite. Ultimately, being ahead with a plan is better than being on track.

EDIT: I expect all the project managers in the audience are now going to tell me that that's bollocks.

I get fucked off with twats every time I step out of the house mate. And there are a large number of football fans who act like twats and will act like even bigger twats when you put beer inside them so I can’t say I’m suprised really.

Buzzing for tomorrow, had to settle for watching the Palace game on my phone (poolside at The Venetian in Las Vegas so don't feel too sorry for me)
