jose did that. He asked for skriniar and they gave him Rodon. Conte wanted bastoni and got Lenglet on loan.

I'm not blaming any manager until they give them proper players and not jokers like tanganga.
Tanganga is our 6th choice center back who made his 1st start of the season on PL tonight against Brentford.

As for material, reckon we have better material on most of PL games, it shows rather rarely. Didn't show tonight, that is purely down to manager.

Conte will be gone in Summer
Kane might be gone in summer if not he goes Bayern 2024
We'll be cemented back to Europa League regulars and the fans still won't question the ownership

I said it earlier in the match thread, but the main thing that needs to change at the moment is that we need to get back to the 5-4-1 disciplined behind the ball defensive structure we've seen for the majority of Conte's time. This has what has gone wrong recently first and foremost. Before the recess and again today we have started seeing alien stuff such as us getting caught on counter/transition, left short at the back man v man or overloaded, massive gaps between the lines in open play, etc. The wide forwards are not dropping back in, the centre mid duo is being broken into pieces, the wingbacks and centre backs partnership is out of kilter. It's all off.

Our defensive setup is/was crucial because a) Conte tactics offer little in terms of pressing, and if we go by the premise of you do everything as one then if you're not going to push up, then all that is left is that you................. and then b) as we saw for many many months, with weight in numbers you can protect and help the supposedly weaker individuals and in fact get something out of them.

As a whole team we're not offering enough from the defensive aspect currently, we're open, we're easy to play against, and the goals conceded are reflecting this. You can put whoever you want in the XI - Hakimi on the right flank, Gvardiol at the back, Modric in the middle, fucking Messi or Mbappe up top if you want - any team that doesn't have that discipline/organisation and want to put that in that collective effort when they don't have the ball is going to struggle.

Yeah better individuals would be nice, absolutely no question. But currently basic and eminently meetable and achievable standards have been lost. They were after all there for the first ten or eleven months of Conte's reign, the last couple of months though they've disappeared. This more than anything is what needs to be rediscovered.

We ought to question their managerial choices most.

How many players were responsible for defending that corner? Was it just Dier, or..?
Dier gave away that corner needlessly and it led to a goal. Doesn’t matter how poor the corner was defended. It should never of happened in the first place. Dier is not good enough.

People have been questioning the ownership for a long time. It's possible to have more than one problem.

I just read that in the 6 seasons since we signed Davinson Sanchez - who has been an unequivocal failure - we've signed 2 centre backs. And one of them was Joe Rodon. So basically in replacing Vertonghen and Alderweireld we have signed Cristian Romero.

How can we possibly expect to have a serious football team? How can you judge any manager under these conditions?
Reminds me of when we signed about 1 CM in 4 seasons and ended up with Sissoko and Winks as our first choice pairing. Yet the board clearly still felt we deserved to be a CL/top 4 team.

A back line containing Dier, Sanchez and/or Tanganga + a CM of Sissoko and Winks. That's what you'd expect to find in a relegated Watford side, not a top 4 team.

Who’s been on a sherry binge ?
The material available is down to those that control the funds they decide if we are shopping in liberty or primark, their penchant for primark is the reason we haven’t progressed to winning anything in nearly FIFTEEN YEARS.

All of the above will sadly become fact.

Material is better than 3/4 of PL teams have, yet it practically never shows on pitch. We scrap points merely by individual skills of some. Those who control the funds make their worst mistakes on managerial choices. Can't wait to see next unsuitable "serial winner" they appoint. Right down the Graham, Santini, AVB, Mourinho, Conte route.

Wow one game back and it’s all doom and gloom again!!!

One game back with all the shite like there was no break at all. Absolutely nothing positive came from the break, nothing, nada.

And we lost ground to Arsenal, Newcastle, Liverpool and come tomorrow probably ManU too.

I agree with all of that which is why I believe it's on the personnel.

Now his strategy was flawed but when Jose first came in, he had the defence solid in a low block. Players were looking switched on and focused.

We saw a gradual erosion of that and players started to lose that same level of focus.

Dier, for example, first 10 months under Conte looked very solid, so much so many felt we didn't need to upgrade, even Royal was defensively decent. Last couple of months and Dier has reverted to that form where be makes regular basic errors and positional ones.

It seems to only take one or 2 of them to go off it and it's contagious.

But I believe with players who have better focus and concentration levels, as well as not getting fazed over small errors, we'd see a vast improvement on everything you mentioned.

Sanchez, Dier, Davies, and co always have a solid run and then revert to type at some point. A focused and fit Romero boosts the team tenfold and I believe if we bring in a CB who matches that level of intensity, we'll see a much tighter unit as it generally rubs off on those around them

we had 4 1st team players missing and played a team who don’t lose much at home. I am not sure we need to be losing our shit so quickly

I wouldn’t blame Conte at all if he walked. About time a manager does that before they get ‘sacked’.

Maybe then people will realise who’s to blame, when a manager shows some backbone & calls out the owners.
This is the problem with conte, he doesn’t earn the respect of the club, plays horrible football and then will walk when he isn’t given a fortune.

We need to start backing the managers we put in place.
We have to stop buying yellow pack players and start buying the genuine article.
We need to start to sort out defence out this window, fed up with the notion it is always being put on the long finger, there will be better value down the line, just identify the right player and pay the money.
As long as we continue to act as we do the longer it will take for us to be a big proper club and the harder it will be to entice the right player.
Facts are Conte has won everywhere he has gone, but we can break that trend if we do not give him the raw materials to work with.
Players like Tanganga, Doherty, Royal etc etc are not good enough, they would not get a game, nor get in the squad of other top 4 teams. The likes of Dier, Davies, Gil etc etc might be worth holding on to for the squad, but should not be starting week in week out, they are simply not at the level required.
Most of the above has been clear as day for over two decades now and the consistent factor here is ENIC and DL, until they change their ways it is difficult to see how things can change. However, we currently are within catching distance of the top 4, so if investment happens we have a fighters chance, if we do not invest it is hard to see Conte, Kane and possibly a few others hanging around this summer.
It will be the final nail in DL coffin for me is we manage to win nothing while the greatest striker many of us will have ever seen at the club leaves without the club winning anything while he was there.

Also, lessons at Arsenal.

Arteta wanted to make Aubameyang captain. It didn't work out but he wasn't fired.

Arteta wanted to keep Saliba away from the team and get mature. Arsenal struggled in the meantime and Arteta wasn't fired.

Arteta spent 50m on Partey but didn't see much of a change immediately in performances. He wasn't fired and was allowed to keep spending.

Arteta wanted to get rid of Aubameyang depsite making him captain and despite the lack of goals. Form suffered yet he still wasn't fired.

The message here is clear. They back him no matter what. It gives confidence to the coach that he is in total control and can build a dressing room devoted to him.

Conte should be allowed to make some mistakes along the way and we should put up with poor performances or spells in games until he's got pretty much everything the way he wants it.

If the club are in doubt or don't wish to stretch that far, then there's zero point continuing.
