I wonder who the alternative would be for the central center back position. I don't think we've been linked to anyone in that role other than Bremer? All other links have been for a left centre back.

I'm not so sure you can afford to be opportunistic when you are talking about key positions and players.
Indeed. I suppose it depends how much Paratici and Conte prefer Bremer over the alternative options.

They might prefer to wait and see what happens with him rather than go down the list and sign the next best thing for the sake of it.

I think getting Lenglet covers our arses somewhat. If we can't get Bremer and aren't happy with the other options available this summer, we'll still have a solid set of CB options next season with cover for all positions.

I may well be wrong here but I don't think he has said that has he? In the most recent interview he said he can qualify for Citizenship through his wife anyway.
Wasn’t the issue more around getting Italian nationality by residency so he could represent them internationally, whereas getting citizenship through his wife would only sort passport/visa issues but would not allow him to change allegiance.

This is something that has crossed my mind too. There were multiple LCB options being discussed, Bastoni, Gvardiol, Lenglet, Torres, Ndicka & Hincapie, but only ever really Bremer as a CCB, maybe Zabarnyi and some vague media suggestions around Kim Min Jae.

Conte May see Sanchez and Romero as capable of that role. We still have Rodon. Perhaps we will only see someone come in if Rodon is sold.

After RWB I think the base of the cake is there. More the icing and cherry required then no? Maybe Conte would disagree but for CB and CM I don't see any issue with waiting until the end of the window tbh if it means we can get the players we really want. After we get a RWB, i'll be very relaxed about the window personally. I'm sure if nothing comes of the Inter situation then there'll still be good players to sign in either position.

Makes sense. The main three roles still under discussion are RWB, CCB and AM/WF.
Wonder if after RWB, the others will be subject to departures?
Once Rodon goes, another CB comes in.
Once Lo Celso/Ndombele go, a creative midfielder/forward comes in.

Exactly this. We've got a list of players in the positions we want and if we can't get the top choice then we should work on getting the next one in. The longer players have with Conte for preseason the better it will be for all parties.

In an ideal world, sure. Unless we get some injuries, I doubt a CB or CM now would affect the starting XI too much in the short term. Assuming Spence or another RWB is signed then the squad is perfectly adequate to see us through until the end of the window.

Yeah - I think initially we saw LCB as a key position, but since our top targets (Gvardiol, Bastoni) were unattainable we pivoted and went bigger in attack on Richarlison, with Lenglet as a stop-gap at LCB.

Bremer is clearly a big target but I'm not sure I'd call him a key signing anymore, since we have Dier and Lenglet as CCB options.

Equally, if we sign an AM they're unlikely to be a regular starter. While they could play an important role next season, I don't think they're absolutely vital in the way that a new attacking RWB is, for instance.

At this rate, still a small chance Bastoni becomes available also so we'd be in a position to pounce and perhaps play him in the centre of the three, then economise on the AM. Makes sense to wait i'd say rather than bring second rate players in early. Suppose it depends on what value Conte places on a pre-season relative to the player's talent, but Bentancur and Deki were brought in mid season and they fitted in pretty quickly.

But we are talking about the unknown here, because you know...... it's Inter. Inter have been this way for years and we know full well nothing at all is simple when they are in the mix. In your scenario we wait until the end of the window we get the exact one we want. What if we don't? I'm happy to wait if we are talking about back up players, and if that's what they are seen as then fine. However we've been trying to work on Bastoni and Bremer for weeks/months so that would suggest they were seen as more than that. I suppose if Conte is happy with Lenglet it's not such a big deal but then again if he is happy with Lenglet why would we pick up another player for the same position just because they were available. Waiting until the death just doesn't make sense in my opinion unless your main boys are already in place and like you say we are just looking for opportunistic top ups.

Possibly now with Romero settled he can cover central as he's good on the ball. I think its more likely Tanganga stay over Rodon as it will help our homegrown quota in CL.

Looks like Chelsea are signing Koulibaly for 40 million euros. We really need to sign a top CB.

Don't think it's going to happen this window mate, unfortunately.

It looks like the ones we really want aren't available this summer (Gvardiol & Bastoni)

Which is frustrating as I don't think Davies & Dier are good enough for a title-challenging team.

They had to replace Rudiger but not many teams have more than 1 top centre back. We have Romero , Liverpool VVD and City Diaz.

Thiago Silva, Matip, Konate, Laporte, and Stones would all most likely get in our team.

Those teams you listed have better CBs than us (if Chelsea sign Koulibaly)

It's an area we need to improve.

Romero’s instinct is to really get out and win the ball though and that central role really has to cover, even more so no we are looking to be more progressive from the left. It’s not only about the passing quality from the centre.
