They didn't. Villa couldn't stop them taking Grealish and that was the difference.
Grealish is now the world’s most expensive sub (I know he wasn’t in their squad today though).

It's the same with Kulusevksi. Some people need to check their half time comments and see how embarrassing they are. Too many fans are far too fickle, slagging off half the team at half time (Mostly Lloris) then praising his class save in the second half and praising the whole team once we've won. Thats not what being a fan is. Fans like this just make themselves look like bellends at full time.
Brilliant performance.
Sorry yeah I’ve worded that pretty badly. I’m surprised they’ve managed to keep that many clean sheets given what we’ve seen today. As in they have kept 7 clean sheets out of the last 10 games, and that’s considered poor defensively? Or did I misinterpret your comment? I would have thought that not conceding a goal in 7 out of 10 would be considered as very good, if not excellent defensively? Sorry if I misunderstood.
Absolutely agreewith this.post. same in our house. Mad when my 8 year old son doesn't celebrate cos he's not sure
his hand was going down naturally, as much of a pen as sissoko in UCL - extra 2 mins was a nonsense - he made sure he gave city time to equalise
Then we’d have 6 points instead of 3. Point stands. Really need to keep our focus more often. So costly.this may sound odd...
I do feel today was in direct response to our last two defeats. Win those , today may have not happened. Everyone needed to turn up including Conte with the selection.
The most important stat is the FT score. City lost because we scored more goals than them. The ref tried his best playing two mins over.City claiming they should have won the game because they had most of the ball and did most of the attacking is understandable but sad. What they need to understand is that, self evidently, our defending was better than their attacking and our attacking was better than their defending, their two goals came from a bad mistake by our keeper and a penalty, they never really broke us down and got through us otherwise.
MNF is all we have for good insightful football conversation, the rest is generic bullshit.
Souness talking about the style of play today, has he not watched how 95% of teams play vs Man City?
How any times have we beaten them using the same template?
I wish English football analysis and general conversation was on the level of other sports.
Fuck, was that twelve years ago?Inter vs Barcelona 2010
Ah, that makes total sense. Yeah, I hear what you are saying. Both they and Liverpool have the ability to push up and pin teams back into their own halves. This is only feasible if you have extremely technical players all over the field, who are disciplined, committed, focused, and brave. But it can be risky if the opposition have the players to break through their defensive line, and can either get in behind them and force them to defend. Oddly enough. I feel that Pool are a better defensive unit than City. Because you are correct in that City don’t look completely comfortable defending in or just outside their 18 yard box. Not sure if it’s the players or just the style of play?Sorry yeah I’ve worded that pretty badly. I’m surprised they’ve managed to keep that many clean sheets given what we’ve seen today.
My main point was that I think that playing City is mostly a mental game. If teams are brave enough to commit players forward and actually try to attack them, they’ll find they are way more successful than they think they will be. As someone else pointed out, most teams go to the Etihad with the mindset of damage limitation and so City don’t really need to defend anyway. Today showed that if teams are brave and have a go, City will show their defensive fragilities.
Today showed good characters which will hopefully see us march on from here. Then we’d have 6 points instead of 3. Point stands. Really need to keep our focus more often. So costly.
Completely agree mate. It's the same with Kulusevksi.
"Why are we signing a Juve cast off, they say he's shit"
"He's very slow" or "He's a bit meh"
Then pivot.
Lloris has done a lot for this club. He's got a lot of credit in the bank and whilst I did cry "why Hugo", I've been fully behind him.
I think it's fair to not like a player or have the belief they are not good enough but far too many people are ready to jump on one mistake or write off a player after a 15 minute cameo.
It's just annoying coming in here to see it.
If we make our new home a fortress & stop conceding sloppy two or three goals a game, sprinkled with a bit more mental fortitude (fans and players alike) and proper recruitment and backing in transfer windows then we can be very very good next season, that starts with not taking the games like Burnley away for granted.
Please don't take this post as a whinge in the the match day thread as I thought they played very well; I missed the first half (also I hate VAR or at least how it's being used)
Maybe not but they could have had a case in a tribunal if it was written in that it was a hidden release clause as apparently no one was supposed to know which is why Villa were fuming. They didn't. Villa couldn't stop them taking Grealish and that was the difference.
