Reminds me of Damsgaard technically, very quick and tidy feet.

Does this mean maybe Bergwijn or Lucas also is on there way out ? if we get like 18-20m and we invest that money in Gil

This is the sort of signing that gets you excited over the start of the season and gives some of that early optimism we all get.

Have to admit there is a lot of positive stuff happening at the minute but until things start to materialise then won't get too excited as we've all been down this road before

Never heard of him until now but that highlight reel shows how comfortable he is on the ball which is exactly what we lacked last season. Got a touch of Modric about his style. Get it done Fabio

I try really hard to keep up to date with all the major leagues and big talents in Europe, but Gil is on e that I have seen a little less of. Before today, where I’ve watched highlighted match comps of 10 matches and 2 expedited (basically sped up a bit) matches, one against Madrid, and one against Valladolid (to get both ends of the spectrum, as Eibar were terrible and relegated). Also examined stats and data on whoscored and fbref and a YouTube highlight compilation. Before, I watched just one (I think) full Eibar match, but have heard a lot of praise for the player and know of his qualities. Basically, my analysis isn’t based on a lot at all.

However, the feet are electric. Even in the tightest of spaces and at high speeds, the ball always seems to be under his control. The quick change of direction and use of the body movements to unbalance opponents is amazing. His first thought when receiving the ball is normally to carry the ball forward, whether there are opponents in the way or not. He’s fearless and confident in running at opponents. The low center of gravity and agility are fantastic in finding space and exploding out of body movements and skills. He's a player who seems almost faster with the ball than without, and his acceleration is great. His top speed is good, but not great, but he doesn’t need to rely on that to create space. His size and strength will be a big question in the prem, but I think he definitely has the elusiveness and toughness to cope. His final ball from out wide is very good, he seems to have a wide variety of crosses and passes that he can play really well, and he was Eibar’s chief creator. Seems equally adept either on the right (where we’ll need him more for sure) and the left, and he is also dangerous carrying the ball centrally and roving through the middle, a bit like Lucas.

Someone else mentioned this, but despite never really using his right foot in open play, he scored a few goals with his right, good finishes. I guess kind of how bale’s right-footed finishing is underrated even though he never really uses it besides that. We really lack a left-footer in attack, with Bale and now Lamela leaving, so Gil will be very important in providing the balance. Also a needed profile: an attacker who primarily causes havoc through ball carrying and dribbling out wide (Lucas I think does his best work in this area in the middle). Son is a world class goal scoring wing forward with terrific top speed. Bergwijn is more of a creator and efficient user of the ball with good decision making and passing. Someone who will ask questions running at defenders is a needed profile that Gil has.Really young, really highly rated in Spain, but with proven output and quality in a terrible team otherwise. I like it.

Nah. This guy is a skinny 20 year old who hasn't even featured much for Sevilla. I doubt he will be an automatic starter for a couple of seasons. I reckon we'll persist with Lucas/Bergwijn and bring through Gil slowly.

My main worry is that there isn't an obvious place in the squad for him given his strong preference for playing wide left.

The main criticism of Paratici from Juve fans was that whilst he has a good eye for players he's not particularly good at building a squad as a whole and spending the right money on the positions most in need.

Hopefully we've just got more money than we've been letting on but if not then we simply have to be focusing the funds on defence.

Don’t know if it’s been mentioned but as he’s only 20 we don’t have to register him as a senior non-HG player this season so with Lamela going the other way this frees up a slot if we need it. Smart business really.

Surprised theres people disagreeing? Who is going to miss Lamela - thats if you care about the quality on the pitch ofc
Lamela has enough quality and drive to play for the team, the only thing that lets him down is his injuries, so I can see why people disagree

I will miss Lamela.

Unbridled passion and enthusiasm. I love players that love to be here and fight for the badge. When I see a player love the club as much as I do - that makes me proud to support them.

Regardless of his injuries, passion and drive for the team and whatnot, Lamela is not good enough. Respect his fight and all, but hes just not good enough. Needs way more goals and assists

Lots of comparisons to other players in the 12 pages thus far but the likeness that stood out to me immediately was.............Chris Waddle. Obviously, they aren't alike physically but the way that he runs and dribbles and feints and turns is uncannily familiar.

Both have dodgy haircuts too.

He looks like a traditional winger, preferring to go outside on his left and cross. I'd love to see him on the right hand side cutting in on his left.

He played plenty of games on the right aswell and supposedly interchanged during games. So not an out and out left winger.

Yes, but the statement wasn't about whether he's good enough. It was about whether he'll be missed and many on here clearly will. An extremely likeable player who's always fought 100% for the badge. That demands respect imo.
