I thought he was decent the other night . PEH sat largely and winks was much more pro active up the field . At times one would press the other would sit and cover .
Was good .

Agree with most of the points here

He is a great squad player. Spurs through and through and seems to be popular and professional. Play him in his correct position and he has more time (less duties) to influence the forward play.

But for me he just hasn't improved enough over the last 2-3 years to warrant a starting place in any of the positions. Just not creative enough. Very rarely picks out a fantastic pass or a ball over the top that creates a chance. Even our defenders do that occasionally. And poor under pressure and a bit too lightweight. Gives away a lot of fouls with shirt pulls. Yes he should be played further forward as above and not being stifles his ability to make runs etc. but he hasn't developed enough in my opinion to make himself a selection headache in the 8 role except in games like Stoke. I can't imagine many opposition managers ever say look out for Winks in their team talk.

So quite happy to keep him in the squad as home grown and great backup. But equally we could probably get £30m for him and if you look at the sort of player you can get for not much more I'd be happy to upgrade. What did we pay for Lo Celso in the end ? £40m total ? And he's 1.5/2 years younger

Edit: Wicks is only 2 months older. I thought GLC was 22 when we bought him and Wicks was already 25 (birthday in Feb)

I’ve defended him in the past as a decent squad option, but I’m not convinced he’s even that anymore.

Maybe it was the couple of injuries he suffered, but he’s now a midfielder in his mid 20s with virtually no redeeming qualities. The two cross he made from deep late on summed how poor he is technically, and if he’s not good technically I’m not sure what the point of him is at all.

Time to cash in.

Poor lad takes a right hammering from his own. No doubt he has had a dip in form, but I think it would be a mistake, same with Dele to move them on right now. Loans, perhaps.

I can't work out where the issue lies with winks. I'm sure the position and role he is asked to play, closing down the passing channels etc it partly to blame for his downward form.

Great, humble lad that seems to knuckle down and works hard when he is on. Just doesn't seem to be clicking for him.

His lack of forward thinking passing could be explained by a loss in confidence. His utterly abysmal positional sense can’t. He’s a liability I’m afraid. The way Wolves repeatedly cut our lines against a set defence because he was 10 yards out of position was just embarrassing

He's just the latest version of Livermore, Carroll, Bentaleb, Mason etc. In a couple of years he'll be at a below mid-table Premier League club and we'll be bringing through another tidy midfielder from the academy that we can overhype. The cycle will never end.

and this today show's why he isn't in our first 11 he can do it vs championship fodder but in the premier league he gets exposed dropping a 2/10 performance that should render his future chances in the first 11 as very slim

Narrative already written about him. So it's obvious pointless saying anything contrary. But winks had a good game and it was a step in the right direction.

He looks much closer to a West Brom / Brighton midfielder than to a player who should play for a top-four contender.

Winks was fucking terrible.

First half, he had time to look up and see Hojbjerg surrounded by three players yet he still played the hospital pass, resulting in Hojbjerg losing possession and giving away a dangerous free kick 20 yards from goal.

Then he had a simple pass to play Son in and fucked it up, then needlessly took down a wolves player on the counter and got booked for it.

In the second half, he got easily beaten by Fabio Silva on the edge of the box and he inexplicably grabbed his shirt. Extremely fortunate not to give away a penalty and second yellow card.

The guy evidently tries but he's so, so far from the level required its unreal. The fact he kicks off about not being a regular starter in this squad is insulting.

Leading to his yellow card he passed the ball to Wolves 3 times in about a minute and a half

Not good enough to play for us unfortunately, his passing is shocking and with him and Sissoko on the pitch we lose creativity
