Dunno if everyone caught it but in his post match interview he was asked about the busted lip Havertz gave him and said:

“That’s my job, I love it”

Love hearing that. We’ve got some players who are really willing to go through the fire for us now. Some serious steel.

When he says he loves it he honestly does love it, the guy is mad a lunatic you wouldn't mess with him or his family absolute mad ones he wont back down from a fight!

My mate's a Swansea fan, I asked him what he thought of Rodon and all he said was "he would head a brick if the manager asked him to".

Thought it was a bad performance, but one that bodes well for the future if that doesn't sound almost aggressively stupid. You can't say he played well today - he made one mistake that led to a goal (albeit disallowed) and another that very nearly killed us right at the death. But they were stupid errors, ones that should be very easy to rectify, and aside from those two mistakes he was excellent. I'd far rather a young player be making silly mistakes that can be ironed out quickly than have fundamental flaws to their game.

What’s promising is that he recognised in his interview that he’d made mistakes and that they weren’t acceptable. Mistakes are one thing but not learning from them is worse imo. Seems like he’ll take the lessons and use them to get better.

He is quicker than Dawson was (and also than Toby is). Mistakes aside today, his positioning generally was first class and he won a lot of headers.

Defended the box very well - very dominant in the air.

On the ball though, I thought he looked shaky and he has an odd gait and playing style about him.

He was very lucky to get away with two very poor decisions, which led to Chelsea’s best two chances. However, he’s young and young defenders will need to make those mistakes to learn (just like Ledley in the 2002 League Cup final). He won’t get the opportunity from Mourinho if he doesn’t learn from them though.

I saw some Swansea fans saying his brother is a massive dickhead. Does his family have a bad reputation?

We had ITK from when we were putting the deal together that there was a hold up. The ITK wouldn’t divulge what it was but said it wasn’t due to injury history or anything with Joe personally. I wondered at the time if it might have been his family. And more specifically his brother Sam. I think he can be known to be a bit of a prick. Not the most PC with some of his twitter posts as well. But what you can see is that he loves his brother a great deal. Don’t think he’d do anything to jeopardise what is a massive opportunity for Joe.

Agreed. The way he lost the ball leading up to Werner’s offside goal looked a bit Foyth esque to me.
Overall a pretty solid debut though. He has the tools to become a very good CB.

Actually it was clarified that it was something small in that regard but were happy enough with it to proceed.

I must’ve missed that. Could’ve sworn the ITK was reluctant to give specifics.

Here ya go:

Everyone needs to stop “overthinking” the mystery. We assessed him, we had a few concerns and they’ve been addressed to our satisfaction. I get why Trix is being cautious but it’s not some big scandal like is being suggested.

I wouldn't call it a great debut by any means but it was one of the toughest tests he will get in the Premier league so you can understand the jitters. Won't start to judge him until he is playing without nerves but I think we got a bit lucky that chelsea didn't expose him more today. Only arsenal next week :nailbiting:

Funny he made 2 mistakes that on another day could have been punished and he could have lost a lot of confidence from that but he'll be on cloud 9 after today.

I don't know why people don't think it was a necessarily good debut. We signed a defender from a championship club for 11 mill and in his first start for the club he was a commanding presence and we kept our first clean sheet at the bridge in 8 years in a game where we set up to absorb a lot of pressure. He made mistakes but of course he did, if he was the finished article then he'd have cost 6 times as much.

Clearly has a huge ceiling to improve but one of the most assured defensive debuts in a long time aside from Tangangas.

He made two big mistakes today. Both could have resulted in a chelsea goal. Other than that I think he did very well.
If he learns to avoid stupid mistakes he can become a very good player for us. (thats why we dont trust sanchez right?...keeps making silly errors)

Dier did the same two incredibly stupid and sloppy passes.
