As over the years I have bought in to the model of buying players on their way up and not on their way down

if a choice between this guy and Coutinho....I'd rather Fernandes joins Poch's phase 2 project

Can Fernandes play the role Lo Celso was likely to have played? Like Dybala we know will effectively have Eriksen’s spot. Yes I’m aware they’re very different players but I mean in being the most advanced and closest to Kane. Would Fernandes be looking to take that role to or does he have the ability to play deeper?

I have to admit I trust Poch when it comes to signings.

Sissoko is the best example.

I know we have had a lot of duds but I believe most of them were under AVB.

'shivers'

Sissoko was levy’s choice initially. It’s detailed in poch’s book.

You mean a premier league proven player who took 2 years to settle and perform? That’s the best example of a good poch signing you can think of?

It would be an exciting one, I agree that based on what I've seen he is the most risky but he clearly could be an absolute star. Of all 4 he's the one I think could potentially be the worst or the best! Coutinho is proven but can be inconsistent and lazy, Lo Celso seems more steady, is tested in La Liga and his skills seem more easily transferable to any league, Dybala has only played in Serie A and wasn't great last season but is considered worldclass by many (Fifa fans), he seems like a bit of a luxury (would he press enough?).

Of the 4 I'd most like a combo or Lo Celso and Dybala (despite my reservations) but Lo Celso and any other would be fantastic.

That’s another thing, even Poch, who knows a fuck load more about football than any of the virgins on here, will get shit wrong. Even he, to an extent, hasn’t got a clue about how successful a player is going to be. Look at Jansen.

He can play in the midfield 3 in a 433 but i'm not sure he has the discipline to operate as part of the 2 in a 4-2-3-1.

I haven't seen any of the tempo setting or control in his game that we get from Eriksen and he doesn't seem to have much versatility to play anywhere other than as a number 10.

I've said it before in this thread but I have a feeling he could do a Suarez. He was doing similarly crazy numbers in the Dutch league at a similar age to Fernandes but had loads of doubters due to the quality of the league. None of the giants (at the time) wanted him so Liverpool took a punt and the rest is history.

I'm not saying he'd be as good as Suarez, but I could see him really surprising a lot of people and becoming a huge player.

Yet somehow I could also see him being a gigantic flop.

Lo Celso on the other hand strikes me more of a consistent 7/10 kinda guy.

That’s what makes me think he will be alright here. I would have more concerns if he’d played in Portugal for instance.
Went over in 13/14 season was in Italy for 4 seasons I think he will be ok over here maybe underestimating him

Yes , Fernandes is less of a dribbler than Lo Celso however he’s a very hard working attacking mid similar to Lo Celso and is capable of playing deeper. He’s more similar to Eriksen than Lo Celso. He’s got a fantastic pass and shot on him, where as Lo Celso is far better at going past a player with the ball at his feet. In my opinion it was always going to be PC or Dybala and then Fernandes or Lo Celso. 1 player for further up the field and one player that is capable of playing deeper, which effectively is the most efficient way of strengthening the squad. I personally would prefer Lo Celso to Bruno, but Bruno is a fantastic player too and is taking a bit of unfair criticism.

Never thought I'd see the day where we're all complaining about a £60m signing!

BUT to be honest, I agree that it's hugely risky. People keep pointing to his goal compilations but the screamers are just the result of him having the freedom to try the Hollywood pass/shot all the time in every game. Of course, some of them will occasionally pay off - it's why his ball retention figures are so low.

He won't be able to do that here, and he lacks the physicality to play deeper in the Prem imo, so I'm not really sure where he fits. Turns 25 soon too so it's not like he's a project.

I guess that he would take Eriksen's spot. he has the ability to play deeper, in fact Sporting got him to replace Adrien Silva (in a slightly more offensive role) but he ended up playing closer to Bas Dost, but don't expect him to be like Modric.

Saying he lacks physicality betrays your lack of having seen him, he's great at using his body to shield the ball and role a player. Add in that he has very quick feet to dribble past someone, and can pass through really tight angles without much thought, and you've got a player who can adapt to the lack of space in the premier league.

As for the age, he's the same age as Deco was when he left the Portuguese league. It may not be a top league, but it's not bloody Cyprus.

This thread just smacks of people who want a stick to beat Levy with and are worried that there won't be the usual 'hasn't bought enough' stick so are turning to the 'hasn't bought well enough' stick.
