Out of interest, why are so many of you against this singing? I guess I'm rather ill-informed but prior to our interest in him I was of the belief he was one of the hottest prospects in Europe, could someone tell me why it's otherwise? (Just looking for an informative response not digging anyone's opinion:whistle:)

I’d ignore 90% of the people who are pretending to have an informed opinion of either player, tbh.

Even if you’ve watched both players 15 times in full games for their clubs I still wouldn’t class that as an informed opinion and I seriously doubt there’s many on here that have seen them play that many games.

Fair enough if people have watched every single Sporting or Betis game but they must be few are far between.

Both are highly regarded and have decent stats. That’s enough for me then it’s just a case of hoping they can transfer that to the Prem.

I’d kind of written this one off as not happening. Seems to be the furthest forward though after breezer’s info. Him in and Eriksen out after the window closes perhaps, maybe that will be our business?

I always go by the fans of that team. If they are totally gutted the player is going and are at their wits end then I’m happy he’s coming in.

Could be a case of what deals are possible plus the dilemma of having very good players lined up but hesitating too much and losing the opportunity

Cheers for the info Breezer but that’s pretty depressing. All the quality targets we are linked too and we’re going to end up signing the bang average player we were linked to who is highly likely to flop.

Sigh.

Took this here so as not to take the itk thread off topic.

You have a strange view of bang average

I’d have preferred Lo Celso, and perhaps same goes for Pochettino, but if that transfer wasn’t possible then at least for once we’ve got a good plan B in place.

I too am not totally convinced by this guy but given that Pochettino turns down players he doesn’t want, Pochettino must see something and that’s enough for me.

In terms of raw ingredients, this guy has a great range of passing, is very inventive, is a good dribbler, mucks in defensively and loves a wonder goal. There’s a lot of upside. If we got him and, say, Coutinho or Dybala, our team would be phenomenal going forward.

Christ, you'd think we were signing Robert Snodgrass, not the 24 year old back to back Portuguese league player of the season and full international.

Needs to BF and Either one of PC GLC or PD if eriksen is to leave or in my opinion that doesn’t strengthen us enough

Yeah that’s a better measure but still flawed as fans will just alter their opinion when they leave to make themselves feel better.

I get people wanting GLC over him since they have somewhat different skill sets and he's coming from a weaker league but mark my words, poch will help him take the next step. This guy will set the league on fire. (y)

Amen.

The Sporting/Primeira Liga fans on reddit are particularly vociferous in their praise of Fernandes. An awful lot of them seem to think he's the real deal and one of the best players to ever grace their league.

Of course we'll never know if he'll be a success until he makes the move, but I'm more inclined to trust their opinions than all those on SC (myself included) who have only seen a couple of matches/Youtube comps.

I have no opinion on Bruno F but he did put in over 100+ appearnaces in Serie A before going back to Portugal. Though I still think he is backup.

He scored a lot of ridiculous goals last season which are well covered in the YouTube videos, but check out his passing. Excellent, quite like Eriksen imo.

He had 13 assists last year (second in the league) and judging by some of the shocking finishing in that compilation, should have had quite a few more.

That's probably because most of the best prospects are snapped up long before they reach 24.

.

Saw someone else post this in the ITK thread and thought it was a great point. Poch is very stubborn with alternatives so if he's given him the go ahead that's good news.

There’s also the consideration that even if someone on SC has seen all his games you have no idea if they know what they’re talking about.

The fans you’re signing the player from is a lot better because you’ve got a big sample size so you can gauge the general feeling about the player but even if someone on here has seen all their games you might have a totally different outlook than them as to what a good player is.

Then you have the problem with someone like Dybala who a lot of people on here wouldve seen a lot of (shit even I’ve seen Dybala play a dozen or so games) and is widely recognised as a top player but you still don’t know if he’s going to succeed or not.

Basically we all know fuck all. We’ve just got to identify highly rated targets for various clubs across the world and hope they do it over here

Think some of our fans need perspective. Bruno Fernandes is a top signing. If we get him and GLC, it is a top class transfer window, one that many in the PL will be jealous of.

Dreaming of Dybala is great, I'm doing it as well, but that does not make the two previously mentioned players any less impressive.

I have to admit I trust Poch when it comes to signings.

Sissoko is the best example.

I know we have had a lot of duds but I believe most of them were under AVB.

That’s what makes me think he will be alright here. I would have more concerns if he’d only of played in Portugal for instance.
