It’s all mapped out for him! He'll be prime minister before the year is out.
All the talking heads are saying don't panic, they'll come good and all that, which is all calm and nice but if they stick by a few of these and they do it again in the next test it's going to be cricketing carnage after the game. Well, from us knee-jerk fans more than the cricketing establishment and our resident sensible calm head @Arnoldtoo . Root will probably say we'll execute our skills better in the next game and someone else will say how they are quality players and need to be given time and A2 will say who else do we bring in. They'll say these things for the umpteenth time and TBH only A2 might have a point, but only up to a point. At some stage I'd perhaps consider getting rid of three or four and throwing in a few younger players from the England A team and backing them over time, but that would require an astute captain and we ain't got one of those either
We're going all late 1980's early 1990's again where the England team was harder to get out of than it was to get into.
Fuck knows what the answer is, we're struggling for players to bring in, we can't move under performers out so what do we do?
Moeen surely has to sit the next test match or two out, Denly doesn't look up to it but he's not had anywhere near the run of games certain other batsmen have got and Bairstow is a walking wicket which means he's contributing nothing at all right now. The lack of runs from Moeen and Bairstow puts pressure on Denly as the new guy which isn't fair, but the harsh reality is that with those three in the team the batting order is currently probably only 7.5 wickets long (giving Denly 0.5 because he's a Kent player )
Anderson is either about to retire or is a series or two away from it, next summer at the latest I would have thought and Broad can't be that far behind him, so the fast bowling needs addressing or very soon will do.
For me Foakes, Archer, Leach, Curran and Stone need to be brought in at some stage, Foakes is at the very least as good with the gloves as Bairstow and I'd say currently you'd back Foakes to make more runs than Bairstow who, lets be honest, if he finds form easily gets into the side but I'd have an in form JB in as a batsman only and if he wants to sulk about it then he should fuck off.
Archer is going to be seen as Anderson's replacement which is fair enough I suppose but I'm not sure we'll get even half as much out of him longevity-wise as we did the Burnley express and we've yet to see how he takes to red ball, although I suspect he'll do it very well.
Leach currently is a better batsman (stats-wise) than Moeen, Bairstow and Denly put together and his bowling is easily better than Moeen right now
Curran adds something to the team with wickets and runs and Stone looks the part although on not much evidence. So there's three or four for now and surely there's more out there. Nasser said something in a show I caught yesterday about forgetting stats, they need to look at a players character first, does he grind it out when he needs to etc etc and I reckon there's something to that but they must also be good players, surely, I mean surely we have one or two?
I know I keep banging on about it but in my humble onion we really REALLY need Haseeb Hameed at Lancashire to get his career back on track. He's one of very few cricketers who got into the team and pretty much immediately looked the part.
As for the captain, fuck me the candidates for that are thin on the ground. The powers that be need to find a proper captain and if he's not up to test match level with his technique, well, we've previous for that with Brearley, I wouldn't mind us seeing that again, so get a captain in. No idea who that is but we need one, this giving the job to your best player stuff isn't working, Root just doesn't inspire confidence either with his tactics or his manner, he just doesn't look like a leader, doesn't have that aura of toughness and capability that demands respect. Root out.
Apologies, this is all a bit bitty and probably poorly thought out and there's probably a player or two who I've missed out that deserves a coating but its silly o'clock here, its hot and I'm struggling to get to sleep, but fuck it I'm hitting 'post' anyway
Stone’s out, got to be Archer.
Is that the bloke who's always wearing sunglasses?Shame that the selectors and particularly Ed Smith comes across as such a bell. (I'm sorry/not sorry for having this opinion of him)
Yeah, they look a right pair (the little one is James Taylor)Is that the bloke who's always wearing sunglasses?
Yeah Im no expert but I recognised Taylor, he was the guy forced to retire....they're both selectors right?Yeah, they look a right pair (the little one is James Taylor)
They are indeed.Yeah Im no expert but I recognised Taylor, he was the guy forced to retire....they're both selectors right?
The other guy's mere appearance annoys me for some reason.

Thats my fear, I could deal with losing it 3-2, but a hiding is a real possibility. They are indeed.
Have to see what changes come, got get a spark in this team otherwise I feel we're in for a bit of a hiding.
Annoys me too as quite frankly he’s a charlatan and how he ended up in his position beggars belief.Yeah Im no expert but I recognised Taylor, he was the guy forced to retire....they're both selectors right?

I agree wholeheartedly with the majority of that. Root is a terrible captain, the way we let Smith farm the strike on day 1 was akin to Kohli last year, he hasn't learnt anything since he took over.
Hameed is a busted flush it would seem, he maybe has the technique but clearly not the mental fortitude. We've picked people out of first class level before and made them a success but I cant see how that guy is getting anywhere near anything sadly. He does however have time on his side...
