Anderson's injury is killing us here, and may well now cost us the test. The bowlers look tired, and its now looking incredibly like its the Aussies day.

We must be the only team that has an 88mph bowler (Stokes) & he looks like a pie thrower.

Booing Steve Smith will only ever drive him on because of the shame he feels and debt he feels he owes Australian cricket. And it’s some debt. Don’t know about Warner st al but it’s massively counterproductive with Smith.

Yep no way the tail wags with Anderson out there. Or Archer for that matter.

Still don't get why England picked an already injured Anderson.

if our openers can just get the lead down into the 210s - 27 more each from a fresh start - then things will look pretty good with Root coming in.

Just need to see out the new ball. It seems a pretty decent batting track to me. Easier said than done though with our batting of late.

Words fail me when describing Smudger, he hasn't picked up a bat in a test for over a year and he does that, not all super heroes wear capes.

Rather ironic that a lot of the poms brought sandpaper to the game, most of them looked like they could do with a decent scrub.

I might not like Steve Smith, but credit where due, he’s on a completely different planet to any other batsmen in the world. Kohli included. I’ve honestly never seen a player, with such an awkward technique, look impossible to dismiss. Maybe Chanderpaul comes close in that regard.

Random question...what was the thinking behind giving Tim Paine the captaincy? He’s old and quite a bit shit, so he’ll either be dropped for poor form or retire, leaving the captaincy for Smith to reclaim?

re Paine, there was no other option, Head maybe but he has to secure his position in the team

If you watch Smudger closely, he is awkward at his stance but when the ball arrives, his technique is generally good, head hands and feel all in line

There was some pretty funny chat at the cricket yesterday. One Aussie had a sign that said "how many times will someone mention sandpaper today?". Underneath he had a tally going. Every time someone gave him some chat he'd get up and add another to the tally and, holding his marker pen to the sign, would theatrically ask the stand "anyone else want to say something about cheating - now's your chance? No? Ok we'll leave it at 43 for now".

Regarding Paine, I can think of 15 better keeper/batsmen in Australia than him
