Foyth has so much and he's still learning. We need to keep giving him chances and letting him develop.

Dier, on the other hand, charged around like a bull in a china shop and has far less excuse.

I don't think thats totally true. Foyth charged in with his foot raised and that's precisely why he got the red. Dier made a decision to go to ground to stop a dangerous attack. Its debatable whether he needed to make that challenge but you could argue it was necessary. The other kick was just poor awareness or his reactions were slow.

I think if anyone charges around its probably Rose and we all (myself included) appreciate that. He just tends to do it in the right way.

I think the key is picking your moments and certainly not raising your studs. That's just suicidal.

Dier got himself into that pickle by first being too high up the pitch, second air swinging and missing his wild shot and then not getting the second ball, he then had to chase it down.

I'm not willing to to go as far and say Dier needs to go because I do think his season has been so disrupted with injuries and no preseason but we do need a better option in the middle.

Yeah I totally agree. He hasn't got up to speed really. In fact whilst Vic had similar issues I think he has shown some more encouraging signs. We are woefully short in that area though.

Foyth however is not the answer there. Nor is he a right back. He is a cb and Id say one of a three. I suspect his actions have made him slip down the pecking order somewhat. I doubt we will see him until next season now. Hes going to have to do some serious growing up to become a regular.

It looks like we will lose Toby so it will be interesting to see if we buy another CB in the summer.

No doubt, but then again you want to ship him out on loan yet he had Sterling in his back pocket for the majority of the game at the Ethiad and barely put a foot wrong. Same the week before when he came on against West Ham.

Horses for courses.

This is the thing, and people have extremely short memories.

It's literally 2/3 games where practically every poster who is saying Foyth should be sent to the gallows, should be played instead of Trippier at all costs because he's nowhere near as much of a liability.

I'm baffled as to why football supporters have a reputation for being fickle.

Problem with Foyth is that he’s had a lot of chances this season and continues to prove he’s a bit daft snd has much to learn. Personally think it’s been too much too soon with him this season. Footballing mistakes aside, yesterday was not new. He’s been sent off for us before. Sending off alone isnt that bad. But when it comes on your first touch 2 minutes after you’re bought on specifically so we didnt go down to 9 men and after poch probably spent half time preaching about staying on your feet it’s a huge issue. I would not be surprised if Poch decides enough is enough with him after that. It makes you question whether Foyth was paying attention and whether he even cared. It was blatant disregard of the manager.

Agreed.
But I also think they'd make a good CB partnership. Like De Ligt and Sanchez were at Ajax.
Foyth will only prove to be a good player if he can sort out between his ears. Otherwise, he’ll just be another player with all the potential in the world who didnt make it.

Is this real ?

I would be hugely surprised if foyth retained anything less than Pochs backing. Aside from whether this is right or wrong we know from recent interviews that Poch supports his players when they make mistakes and gives them opportunities to do better. He will support Foyth and he will come back better.

Posters in here make Mourinho seem tactful. None of you ever managed a real human before ?

Poch has thrown players to the heap before when they didnt care to listen to him.

Foyth is obviously a pretty bright footballer, for one so young. I agree he's been needed more than he's ready for this season, but I guarantee you that there's zero chance that Poch is going to decide "enough is enough" and bin him. That's not going to happen, and nor should it.

Lol@the club selling a 21 year old full international with 3 years left on his contract.

I felt a loan would do him good, but honestly he'll need to play if indeed Toby is fucking off and will be more regularly in the rotation next season. Big Dave is fairly ahead of him IMO, certainly in the air and with decision making.

Being confident on the ball is one thing, but making the right decisions when you have that confidence is quite another and I think he's lacking a bit mentality wise.

Still looks a bit too slight for a centre half for me, although he is stronger than he looks, but he switches off far too often and gets caught ball watching quite a lot. When other players have opponents in their marking zones I've seen him too slow to react (far too often) with other runners to adjust with the rest of the defence and it causes all kind of problems.

I don't think he's ever going to be a midfielder or full back just because of his awareness, think he's been playing at the back so long he's almost got forward blinkers.

That poorly judged run and tackle could well have cost the club multiple millions more than his price tag...worst decision he's likely made in his career.
