Have you ever played football? how much information do you expect them to process in a split second when a world class striker of a ball is about to fire? It's all easy in hindsight but get some perspective of the gravitas of what was happening in that moment.

Of course I have - duh !

If you walk out on the pitch knowing you are walking a tightrope, you only take a card when it is unavoidable.

And Rose [and the defence itself] were in front of him so he wasn't about to fire a clear shot.

It's not hindsight either - I was aware of it at the time. I was expecting others to post about it on the night, but that didn't seem to happen.

So given all the moaning about him being vitally absent last night, I thought it best to make sure it got said,
so that it never happens again to us that a player finds out afterwards in the middle of a TV interview.

I'm sure Mauricio is very grateful to you, as we all are.

Knowing that we have to attack and score in the 2nd leg, they will probably just sit back and play counter attack...which will limit Son and Moura to have space to attack...that will frustrate us for sure...

Maybe dele and eriksen can finally step up then

I want Foyth at RB and Vertonghen as LB. As long as Sissoko is there we can line up with one of our two defensive mid meatheads.
Eriksen, Dele, Lucas and Son going forward.

Oh nooo, that could mean Rose in midfield. A one man 'take them all on' machine.

Kwp should start on Saturday, if he plays well he should play again in amsterdam.

I'm not even a huge fan of his tbh, but we need fresh legs, some youthful exuberance and pace down the flanks

If he's not playing over a poor Trippier its because the manager sees something lacking, have to trust him.

For sure it was not just a disappointing result but also a disappointing performance but one must remember the following....that while Ajax had very few injuries this season and could field a well-drilled injury free team and having the week-end game off....Spurs had a tough derby match a 3 day before and due injuries to several players unable to rotate as much as they wanted...
That Spurs are still 3rd in the EPL and in the semi-finals of the CL is a minor miracle really if one considers the following:
- Out injured for the Ajax game: Aurier, Jan (got injured), Winks, Lamela, Kane; Sissoko not fit enough to start, while Son was suspended.
- Wanyama and Dier still struggling to get match-fit after a long spell out.
- Dembele was sold as his fitness simply couldn't stand more of EPL footy.
I doubt that any team - even with better squads- would do better than Spurs in such circumstances. In fact, ManUtd, Arsenal and Chelski - all 3 teams spared from major injuries this season - are doing worse than Spurs.
As mentioned above, due to so many injuries there is an extra wear and tear on the regulars as there are less rest due to less rotation possibilities - and that while competing for the CL spot in the EPL and being in the semis of the CL.

One fairly irrelevant point that the media keep highlighting is that only once has a team reversed a 0-1 deficit and gone on to get into the final.

Considering how many teams have actually won an away game at this stage 0-1 (not many) it's nothing earth shattering. I actually found a few occasions in which a team drew their home leg 1-1 and then won their away leg.

Most notable United when they beat Juventus 2-3 and Chelsea when they beat Arsenal 1-2 (QF). Some pundits are making out like it's practically impossible when in reality we just need to win which has been done by an away team on multiple occasions. Ajax lost to Madrid at home and drew with Juventus (who clearly played for an away goal) so it really isn't far reaching to suggest we can win.

To be honest I struggled to understand why no show in a game that for many they will never participate in again and yet it was woeful.
I get Saturdays no show if it meant a stellar performance last night its a case Bella emberg Saturday so yeah I'm tired but Scarlett Johansson on Tuesday and I'm fucking raring to go.

Personally, I think the positive people thinking we'll still get through are mad and a bit moronic If I'm honest.

We played in a CL SF last night, this was a moment to show everyone just how good we are, that we deserved to be there. 1 shot on fucking target all night lol. We were fucking dicked over at our big fancy new stadium by a team who had a bit of belief about themselves.

We went to City and scored 3, I hear people say. We also technically let in fucking 5.

Time and time and time and time again, I sit the next day wondering what the fuck did Spurs just do there. Are they really that thick ? do they know the magnitude of these type of games ? Look at the PL, were lucky the past few games that scum, blue scum and utd are just as shite as us or we'd be in the europa next year and even now, I wouldnt put that past happening.

To have any shred of a chance next week this is what must happen.

Poch, you tinkering fuckwit. Play a back 4, got it ? Sissoko starts, son starts and Llorente is back on the bench... Oh and to have any chance in the slightest, and believe me here, we'll need to score at least 2. AT LEAST 2. That means Spurs, you'll need to have at least 100% more shots on target than the HOME game you just got dicked in. Let that all sink in, maybe write it down if it helps.

I agree. Especially if you factor in Ajax are a young and inexperienced side. We will really go at them second leg and with the added potency of Son, most probably score early. Ajax showed last night they were easily rattled when we really went at them. No way will they be able to put in a disciplined defensive performance so I still feel we’re well in this tie.

Play 4 at the back, Sissoko on from the start, and Son instead of Nando... we are more than capable. It's all in the head now.

Exactly. We need to be ramping up the mind games. They will be frustrated they didn’t put the game to bed after their start and missing chances.

One thing that is frustrating, of all the centre backs we have taken from Ajax, we look set to miss out on potentially one of the best they have ever produced....

I still can't get over his age, even my wife couldn't believe he was the captain.

No chance he’ll turn out as good as vertonghen.

I just want to beat Bournemoutth at this point. Even if we somehow reverse things in Amsterdam I think this squad will get throttled in the final. Our chances of qualifying for CL are much better through the league.

On the injury front we need Aurier back more than anyone. Trippier has been awful, his delivery isn't even good anymore. Why the hell Walker-Peters isn't playing I don't know.

If Son, Sissoko, Aurier and Lamela are all available for the second leg then i'll be confident we can get a result.

Was saying this at school today, I'm a teacher, that goal has made not a jot of difference other than they are 1-0 up. It makes no difference as an away goal at all. Ultimately if we cant score over 2 legs we go out. It was the case before the game and it's the case now.

Yes they were good, excellent, but I absolutely believe that with a full strength team we would beat them over 2 legs. Just that 20 minute spell of pressure last night stopped them in their tracks completely.

I'm going to say it, we are better them.

We are still in this tie and actually I think we will shock the world again and beat them next week.

A few reports I've read have been banging on about Ajax's 'crucial away goal'. Well it's not that- it's just a goal. Because we didn't score we can't lose on away goals. We can only lose on goals scored. We could still win on away goals though.
Thought I'd point that one out. :woot:
