It didn't seem to stop Arsenal or Chelsea from getting their top targets.

If we offer the money, we'll get our targets. If we don't, we won't.
Pretty much this. Not sure why people peddle that shit, it's not changed jack shit about our M.O over the years, it won't start now.

The issue is that they've been able to compensate for the lack of CL football by paying top wages, which Levy is deathly allergic to. Our only hope of recruiting players of the required standard is to sell them on an attractive project, which will be impossible if we're in the Europa League.

Not really, we just don't pay at all - Champions League football or not.

We're not on the level and that's down to management.

Champions League qualification is just another excuse 'tool'.

I'll believe it when I see it.

It certainly hasn't helped us over the past three years, during which time our recruitment has been absolutely disgraceful.

Despite that I still maintain that "the project" is our only hope of getting the players we need (we all know that paying the market rate is completely off the table). Missing out on the CL and likely losing very important players as a result would make things much more difficult for us. The lost revenue alone would be a deathblow.

That is the only thing I can see actually mattering to anyone at board level or on here tbh.

Even still, us going after the top tier talent - while it seems it does happen: De Jong - we're just not that sort of run club.

We're all full of hope and piss and vinegar when the window opens, dreams of the top rated talent etc etc but until that happens again (like Modric and Berba) then we need to go back to other things that have served us well - young English talent.

This all feels pointless though as I am sure we have both wasted countless hours posting a semi positive hope/view for it all only to be dashed.

I said it at the turn of the year then prior to easter and after such a shitty performance today again - I can't wait for this season to end, it's been shite. The summer fills me with a different dread and there is just that slither of optimism that will probably end up being a wet fart in a collinder come the last week in July.

Fucked if I think we'll do the business we all hope for, but will be over the moon if a large percentage of it were to happen.

Completely understand your pessimism and I share it myself.

That being said, with naming rights and all kinds of commercial deals tied in with the stadium on the line, it's absolutely imperative for the club to not have its profile dashed by placing into the Europa League. There's a staggering amount of money on the line that will surely have a massive impact on our ability to compete in the transfer market if we miss out on it.

I can already hear the excuses coming from Donna Cullen and the BSoDL if we lose 100m by finishing fifth. "We've got a stadium to pay off," etc. I can't see anything but more stagnation and decline if we're kneecapped by the loss of revenue. It's amazing we risked so much, at such a crucial moment in the club's history, with the most threadbare squad in recent memory.

Goons had Europa League on offer this season yet have closed the gap on us ( as it stands, might yet overtake us )

It’s anazing what attempting to improve your side/squad can do sometimes!

Know what you're problem is, you use that daft bdsol shite. Select few genuinely believe the bollocks, other than that most can see both sides of the argument. Some of us don't need to see it time and time again either.

It's no good holding onto what most know is fairly large part of the reason why Spurs don't always compete. If the future under the current ownership fills you with that much despondencey then perhaps people who pay the season ticket prices need to have a word with those who set them etc etc.

Football is a distant second when it comes to Spurs.

Football may be second to the value of the club as far as ENIC is concerned but the two are innately connected. Do you think the club would be worth anywhere near what it is now if we'd carried on finishing fifth or sixth most years as we did before Poch?

Keeping the valuation of the club high necessarily entails having on-field success, which is going to be more difficult if our revenues get slashed. CL qualification may not be the end-all when it comes to bringing players in but it does matter a great deal financially, which is why all the top clubs place higher priority on it than on domestic cups.

No a lot of joy in a spread sheet though is there?

Anyway we're going off piste here with a topic that's been done to death. I hope that we have identified some targets (wasn't that the scuttlebut on here or have I made that up?)

Long summer ahead.

Knocking a fellow poster for having a positive view on one of our own footballers?

We all say stuff about players we wish we hadn't good or bad.

Put the epeen away, fucking hell.
That quote was from ~4hrs before the game and I replied with this 30 minutes BEFORE the game:
Yeah, not gonna open myself up to the slings and arrows but let's just say that I am not sure what generation you're talking about. And I've been lockstep with just about every other thing you ahve written in here.
First off, some of us are measured in our comments so the crow isn't always served. I had my say about Dele from 2 years ago and took pelters for it. Haven't seen anything in the intervening time to make me modify my opinion. Went today to repost it becasue of it's accuracy and the salient nature of today's events.

And it wasn't a 'positive view' it was a delusional view, a RAWKish view from a poster that I have a lot of time for. We have disagreed on this topic for some time but I still respect his perspective. It was a pisstake because within 4 hours this board saw in this 'WC player' what I see in him every game no matter how many goals he scores. It was not ridicule of SF77, as I said I appreciate his posts, as much as it was a callback to something that didn't age very well and that I had addressed before the game.

So, as far as you policing efforts go, have a donut and relax.

Or you could save the fucking essay and not do it?

I'd rather have a small box of raisins if I am honest, you can stick to the donuts though be my guest.

Or...or you could gfy

edit: don't know why this is getting 'disliked'. If I think it is good for someone to do what they would prefer doesn't seem cause for getting all riled up. Weird folks. Perhaps some folks don't like raisins.
