He's "good enough" in a back 5, in a back 4 he's a complete liability. I personally don't prefer him in a 5 either but I see where he has his merit. He's good enough but he needs to do better. There's sensible and balanced criticism and then there's this stuff, it's lazy, hugely insulting and inaccurate, adds nothing and makes the person saying it look like they just don't know what they are talking about. We do not have 'shit' players. We have players of varying ability playing at various levels of form and that's what's debatable, they are not 'shit'.
Have you seen Foyth play as a fullback? If Rose doesn’t get fit and Aurier or KWP don’t grab the RB spot I’d be seriously tempted to go to a back 4 of:
Vertonghen Sanchez Alderweireld Foyth
Yeah it won’t offer anywhere near as much in attack but we have wingers at the club and at least we’d have two players at full back who are defensively solid. Sick of seeing us getting rinsed down the wings week in week out.
We won’t sign full backs in January so get to summer and buy two new ones who actually fit what Poch needs from them.
God forbid we just don't think a player is good enough. You’ve hit the nail on the head. Spurs fans always need a scapegoat.
Well, that's going to be quite a long list really isn't it?God forbid we just don't think a player is good enough.
We or me?Well, that's going to be quite a long list really isn't it?

Both have been in pretty poor form this season. They aren’t the only ones, I think Kane has been poor relative to his standards as has Eriksen but the difference is they have a lot more credit in the bank and their mistakes rarely (I’m hedging against the Eriksen mistake against PSV) cost us games. Trippier has been costing us games, Davies has just been meh. I think this is made worse by comparison with the Walker / Rose combo of 2016/17 where FBs were a strength for us, now it feels like a weakness that other teams are targeting. I think Poch has to take some of the blame though for continuously putting Trippier on the firing line in a back 4 against fast, powerful wingers. I’m sure if you went back to the match threads for Barca or City you’d find loads of posters predicting Trippier would be badly exposed and then guess what, he was. If Poch picks him against Zaha he wants his head examined. And yet we have finished top 3 3 seasons running with the last 18 months being played with Trippier and Davies almost constantly, with both finishing amongst the top assisters in the league last season (they were the two too assisting full backs, with Davies the top assidting full back).
Both are upgradeable, maybe with players we already losses, but to say Trippier isn’t top 6 quality is incorrect, he would get in every single side from 7th to 20th.
Being able to pass from RWB and CM are two completely different things. He has all kinds of time and space from his spot out wide, middle of the pitch is a whole different ball game.Top of Spurs assists this Season.
Pep would have converted him to a midfielder 18 months ago.

I shared an (honest) opinion about why I don't hold some posters' opinions in very high regard, sorry if my candour offended...
I just can't understand why Trippier is getting so much critique (and always has from some quarters) and so little support considering what he has achieved since he broke into the side. It's kind of the reason why I'm such a vocal supporter of his.
I'd welcome anyone to check the post histories of any of his most ardent critics and see how long they've been talking up the other full backs or ranting in match threads ad nauseum...it's pathetic for 'supporters' from my perspective.
I've been a vocal critic of Serge, I've also praised him for (the rare IMO) good things and hope he can improve...although I have serious doubts about that.
If Serge gets in, I'll trust the manager's judgement...I doubt he or KWP have any chance of ousting Trippier from 1st choice, despite all the tonnes of shit being thrown in this thread.
Interesting to see what reaction you get to thisSadly that is the way football forums work.
There are players who can be criticised and those who can’t. As a result those who can be criticised get a ridiculous amount of it resulting in people thinking they are rubbish.
Tripps passing is the only thing I rate about him, and his passing is VERY good. I'd like to see him in a 3 and see what he could do passing wise.
Tripper has one of the Worst Pass success rates in our team.

Calling any player 'shit' is not a fair critique. Of anybody. I'm pretty sure that doesn't just exist in my head, although there are some proper nice things that doThen you have posters claiming that in this thread he's been called shit, claiming he's being scapegoated and I don't understand it personally. I think there's been a fair critique of him with his positives rightly mentioned. I feel like you're making it worse in your own heads quite frankly.

Of course it isn't everyone by any means who's descended that far and there have been people who have been sensible in their onions but that doesn't make it right. It's two separate things, I think largely posted by different people.
