We need to replace him, just not necessarily directly. If he goes then it increases our need for a CM even further.

Hopefully that's what he's implying that Dier will be backup CB and we'd bring in another CM in case of that. Otherwise he must really rate Amos.

Sounds like we won't accept a straight up fee then and we'll only deal if Martial comes our way. Or maybe I'm reading in to it too much.
Might as well read it however you like, every time we think we have a handle on anything during this window it goes to shit!

His follow up: If martial isn’t included and Toby goes then I expect a riot! It would simply be not good enough! No hiding at all from that. I would genuinely rather keep him and sell him for 25m in a years time to make a point! I’m sure most spurs fans would agree!

This is his opinion but is the same view I, and many others around here have.

100%. I get finances, but we're a football club first.

We want to be a big club? We have to act like it.

I read it as he's got a huge decision to make as Martial won't be included. Take the money now or lose him for 25m next year. If the ITK is true that there's no way back for him I don't see how he cannot be sold.

I just don't f*cking get why the hell Man U won't do an exchange w/ Martial? Do they hate Levy that much? Are they that scared of Poch/Spurs? It just doesn't make sense. It's a mutually beneficial deal.

I don't think it is anything to do with us. It's Mourinho.

They saw what happened to Salah, KDB, even Lukaku. I'd argue their higher ups don't trust his player judgement when it comes to youngsters.

I'm sure the thought of Martial scoring 20+ for a different PL club is in the back of their head every time Levy calls.

I guess they're the big boys aren't they. They have to be seen to be able to get the better deal.

EDIT: Also what @synththfc says above

ManU's board isn't as stupid as Mourinho is. Mourinho doesn't give a fuck about Martial because he'll likely be long gone by the time he hits hit full potential and only cares about next season.

That's my take too. DM to come in, Dier can cover CB, and the new DM can cover Wanyama's injury short term. Alternatively, we place faith in Foyth/Carter-Vickers at CB, and Amos/Skipp at DM. Maybe this is our play at reversing the trend of youth departures. I thought Bennetts was worth a shot at backup LWB, but maybe that'll be Georgiou now?

Anyhow, fingers crossed Levy's stance pays off and we get Martial. I actually think Toby/Janssen out - Grealish/Martial in, wouldn't be a bad window.
Maybe add a DM if we clear one more player out.

Outside of Levy, perhaps Woodward is worried about 'the one that gets away'? (I agree with you fwiw, but we're fans, we want the best for us!)

I thought you wanted to sell Toby to them regardless or Martial?

I'm shocked the amount of people I've been arguing with for months over this and just cause Gards says it, they agree now.

I think it’s more the fact they rate at 90m and only want to pay 40m for Toby. Whereas Levy would probably do a straight swap valueing them both at 70m.

I wanted to sell Toby for a good price regardless of Martial yes. When it came about before, there was talk of £70m for Toby. Not sure where I've said different above?
