With Trippier again showing he's a hell of a lot better as a wing back rather than full back it wouldn't surprise me if we go back to a 3. It would explain why we don't seem that interested in getting a CM because Eriksen will drop back slightly and as others have said perhaps Dier will go back to CB thus theres a requirement for another DM option. Means we don't need to spend on a Toby replacement and can spend that on an attacker.

Lloris
Sanchez...Dier...Vertonghen
Trippier........Wanyama........Rose
Dele...Eriksen
Kane...Son
That's the current base. Then you'd add say a Grealish as backup for Eriksen and Dele, Barrios as Wanyama backup/rotation then you spend every other penny on an option to rotate with Son.

I’m pissed. Poch likes him. That is what I was told not so long ago. I hate this farking crap. Told we weren’t following up, and now this. Hope I am wrong, and jumping the gun.
Do you watched the Argentinian league each week or you are basing this by watching YouTube videos?

No but it affects the numbers of players in the squad for 2 CM spots. How many DM's does one team need exactly? We need creativity because we have very little from the middle of the park, not yet another destroyer. Don't forget there is a maximum number of foreign players a team can register each season.
Agree completely, As much as i'm a massive Poch fan. He seems to prefer brawn over brains and technique. I would love a player who could play with his head up and dictate the play in midfield.

Have to assume that this means that we were unable to secure a CB to replace Toby, so Dier is moving back to CB to take that spot and Barrios is taking Dier's spot as CDM.

This may be where Poch as a defensive player himself is showing bias towards a more defensive approach?

Regardless this would be a stupid move.

Imagine going into summer saying it will be different, expecting de Ligt, Martial or Pulisic and ending up w/ Plea, Barrios and Grealish (I actually like him though)

that being said, I've now watched one minute of Youtube clips on Plea and am an expert - he reminds me of Jermain Defoe in the 45 seconds I've watched of him..maybe not so terrible after all

Plea would be perfectly acceptable for what we need up top. A player with some pace who can spell Kane and not just act as a target man and is sufficient enough out wide to cover there as well.

i dont know enough about him to give an opinion- like I said, only watched a few minutes on youtube but looks like a much different kind of striker than we've pursued to back up Harry. Who knows, could work out very well. 25m euros is the new 15m so I guess its worth it. Just still disappointing, Jann Fiete Aarp was the young backup striker that I wanted.

Think his point is that Poch should get the players he ask for, certainly someone with a £12m release clause and so far hardly any competition for his signature.

The longer the window goes, the more convinced I become that our “creativity in the middle of the park” role is already nailed on for Winks. Which would qualify as “being brave” I suppose, although not what most on here had in mind I imagine!

People here are scared of a backup forward with an injury history who will maybe play 20 games in all competitions. They should be terrified of Winks injury history with him as a starting midfielder for the entire season.

Tbh not that bothered. Our expensive signings have mostly been let downs. Toby and wanyama were players we thought do we need?

We'll only know at the end of the season how succesful the transfer window was.
Wanted to take this over as to not clutter the ITK thread and this was regarding Barrios I assume... We definitely needed Toby and Wanyama when they were purchased.

This can also go for Lamela though, tbh...and you keep including him as a reason why we shouldn't be going after attackers.

With Winks though its a consistent injury and has happened in the only two seasons we've seen him feature. Lamela was injured his first year in the Prem, then played two full seasons, got that freak him injury and is back healthy again.

I'm not saying Lamela should be starting every game but as depth he is more than sufficient. Hell Coco played more games this season than Winks did.

Lamela also missed a month in his 2nd season. 15/16 was the only season he was healthy.

This is one of my few issues with Poch. Seems to like big units in CM rather than players who can play.

God help us if Eriksen gets injured.

When we bought toby dier was playing cb people wanted us to buy in other areas. Wanyama wasn't that exciting.

Both improved us.

You know what beats that machine running around the pitch? A player passing the ball. Luka Modric will always be a better player than Ngolo Kante. We need to find a Modric, not a Kante.

Also, what defensive midfield players are going for 60 million?
Fred?
