if he is really available for sub 5mill then why not, if he doesn't work out you could sell him to a lower PL team for double that the way the market is atm.
Or of course the focus could just be on getting the best possible replacement - you know, the one amongst him and Perreira that's the best footballer - not the cheapest? Any one would think we haven't sold our first-choice right back for the most expensive fee ever received for a defender, and we're suddenly short of cash.

Have to question our scouting after this, perriera at a low cost compared to this guy it's like
Choosing Bertrand over Kyle naughton and to be fair I like Kyle
Naughton but this is a weak decision very disappointing if true
What do you mean 'if true'? The article doesn't say we are signing him, or that we are even in talks with them.

I have seen Toljan once live in Hertha Berlin Vs Hoffenhein last season (guess it was April). Hoffenheim won it 1-3 away. Tbh, I did not notice him much except he played RWB that day; Hertha had a man sent off in 2nd half, so Hoffenheim won the game with advantage.

I have seen him twice in Bundesliga TV games - would say he is still raw, defensive positioning to be improved. But what he has got is versatility - can play RB & LB equally well. He tends to make very intelligent runs and has more than decent end product in attacking half.

He is back yesterday from U21 for Hoffenheim preseason. He is on 5k € a week and on last year of his deal. Hence the reason for low price tag.

If we get him, we will be getting a good potential at very low price. I like Pereira & Henrichs than him, but still, he would be a very good punt in this market.

I'd like us to be looking at a RB who actually likes defending, and is good at it. I know our 'style' is to push the wing backs forward, but we will at some point have our RB facing up to Hazard, Martial, De Bruyne/Sane etc.. I think we have the attacking side of things pretty well covered with Trippier and KWP but think we're vulnerable defensively if they can't get up the pitch. That's the main reason I was quite keen on Veltmann,

I like the look of him.

Would be my first choice full back buy.

Don't get some of the odd negativity against him in this thread, this would be type of signing someone like Southampton would make, he'd develop really well with them and Liverpool would then buy him off them for big money.

he fits our profile perfectly and just don't get the negativity. he looks an exciting prospect so i'd be very happy if we get/got him.

plus lets be fair, we'd all cheer signing ronald fucking mcdonald at the moment.

This signing would make sense as we are not man city so we don't let trippier sign a five year deal and buy big for back up.
It suits our business model of low risk with potential sell on value.

I don't see the difference between signing Toljan and Dier, both were unheard of and cost peanuts. Dier has become a vital member of our squad and so could Toljan... if he doesn't work out then it's no great loss at circa £3m especially when we've been told Trippier will be 1st choice.

If we are going to penny pinch over a RB and baulk at the reasonable Pereira asking price then let's just get this guy in. Quite low risk tbh for the fee muted. If he doesn't work out then we've got KWP too.

This kid is better than a lot of people are saying. He is solid defensively and from what I have witnessed and also has good acceleration to get past a player. His signing would be similar to that of Trippier in that he would be second choice while being developed - that didn't go too bad. I wouldn't be worried about KWP, he played at LB to great effect for England and he would have plenty of opportunities at both positions.

Hoffenheim 'Director Of Football' Alex Rosen: 'If Tottenham Hotspur come and offer 3 x times the player's salary, you can't say no".

Well, that's interesting. We are definitely in for him then. I've suspected for a while he's the mystery German we are in for.

jesus what is he currently on if we are offering three times his salary? He must be paying Hoffenheim to play

I'm kind of confused why he seems to be THAT cheap. Ok, he has only got one year left on his contract, but he was still a starter for the German U21-team. Surely they could ask for a lot more and teams would stil pay it?

Agree. Always a bit worrying that someone won't come in.

I mean, Txiki Begiristain probably carries £5m in loose change in his pockets and would probably pop over to buy him just to annoy us.
