European football is about patience and composure, the ban imposed thanks to "da pool" is till being felt by English teams. Our lack of composure, greatly exposed by Alli and Dier will be our undoing if we don't get it sorted.

Can we recognise that Dier is not as good as some think he is? Count the decisive errors, including losing his man at set pieces, he doesn't look like he wants it enough

Verts was brilliant and didn't deserve to be on the losing side. We were great between the boxes but that first leg performance was a stunning show of can't be bothered. Laughable we couldn't put that lot away over 180 mins.

Sounds like Danny is out for a while yet, play Davies inside and let Jan work the flank

That took a lot out of us in the second half, Stoke much harder now...

So much been made of Rose lately, what are we honestly coming too as Spurs fans if we're putting our misfortune down to a full back being injured.. We've struggled all season against poor teams because they sit in and defend. We need Son in every game and have missed Lamela as an additional clever runner. Not enough craft and composure.

Last season Dier was God.

This year he has been chopped and changed about, so who is to blame? Not the player, that's for certain.

So many fans with short memories.

Davies is a waste of a shirt as a wing back. Looked like Poch told him to stay wide, hold back a bit and leave the inside left channel to Jan. The formation only works if the wing backs are getting in behind. I miss Danny loads and don't mind admitting it. Got to improve the bench in the summer, getting in like for like options at lwb and cf. one more CB would be good, Van Dyk, haha, or that McGuire of Hull looks decent and we do lack a tower at set pieces. Ah, fack it, I'm pissed off.

Ask yourselves this: who actually played bad tonight? Anyone?
The first leg, Dele's red, shite refereeing, atrocious finishing. That's what done this one for us. No one turned in a poor performance tonight individually.

It wasn't the worst performance, but at the business ends of the pitch we weren't good enough. And I thought both Dier and Kane were poor.

Apart from the miss, I thought Son was a breath of fresh air. We need width and pace and he showed that tonight. Just a shame he didn't get more of a run out.

Not the best game from our English core. Dele fucked us over with that stupid red card. He almost deserves to be benched for that. Disgusting in such an important match.

Kane had some good passes and one-two with Eriksen. They seemed to find each other even though we were a man down. But man the own goal and he couldn't score. I think he even saved Gent at one point.

Maybe Dier needs to either play DM or CB because he seems to be confused a lot of the times. Lost the header on the first goal and played the Gent player onside on the second.

Walker was the least worse of the bunch. He had a good understanding with Eriksen, but his final ball was garbage. He gets in so many good opportunities, but can't score or cross to a teammate. You would think he would score and assist more with all those runs he makes.

Wanyama was a bit wasteful in possession, but he battled hard and scored a goal. Probably our second best player.

Dembele did dembele things. Shielding the ball and winning it back, but also holds on to it for too long and offers close to zero offensively. It would be good if he was a defensive midfielder, but as a CM he offers too little offensively in a game like this. We needed goals and assist and you could be sure it would not come from Dembele. We need a CM with more goals and assists.

Eriksen was my MotM and it wasn't even close. He scored and assisted and was involved in good things. I think people underrate how much we rely on him offensively. I have no idea where goals and assists should have come from tonight without him.

Ah Spurs, my love, my anguish.

Lloris - 6 - expertly picked the ball out of the net twice.

Walker - 6 against bus parkers he lacks the intellectual fortitude to make a difference, especially in a 3-5-2. He's more your on the break FB. Trippier would have been a better option tonight.

Davies - 5 - a Davies performance. About as suited to a wing back role as Gary Mabbutt.

Verts - 8 - class.

Toby - 7.5 - Toby.

Dier - 6 - it may be age, it may be ability, but he lacks awareness and intuition as a CB. Lame effort for the first, terrible for the second. Pretty sure that's 3 or 4 goals he's cost us from stepping up for offside this year.

Wanyama - 7 - functional

Dembele - 6 - ho hum

Eriksen - 8 - not his lofty best but still manages a goal and an assist

Dele - 5 - atrocious tackle. Was perfunctory at best before that.

Kane - 5 - off key, off radar and off his game.

Let's be frank, we should have cruised that game. There was very little difference in the Fulham game apart from them scoring from their two voyages into our box and Dele losing his head.

I'm no fan of Janssen's but find Poch's decisions odd in the least. Why chuck him on with a minute to go in a game completely lost? Trying to embarrass him?

Wembley is shit.

Dis is Fooble

I’ve got not real grumbles tonight, I would rather have seen Winks play than Dembele, I’d like to have seen Trippier play RWB, and I’d like to have seen Edwards on the bench, but apart from those quibbles I thought the tactics were good and we came out with the right attitude.

I liked the 3CB system, it meant we could use the bigger Wembley pitch to good effect. Just a shame Davies umbilical chord is attached to the halfway line.

You can not criticize the collective application tonight, from the get go we set about the game with the right attitude, were on the front foot, the only thing in short supply was composure and quality when it mattered.

And no one typified that more than Walker. Whilst you can applaud the endeavor he showed which, as always, was commendable, continually bombing up into forward attacking positions, he wasted so many with poor choices, no composure or poor delivery. I would love to have seen Trippier get into those areas as often as Walker did, you just feel sure we’d have seen at least half a dozen of them bear more fruitful conclusions.

I think we were incredibly unlucky tonight, we thoroughly dominated from start to finish, got the early goal our up and at em’ approach deserved, and even with ten men, we got in to numerous good situations and made enough great chances to win this game easily, but unfortunately we were ruthlessly punished for a couple of errors. Their first goal wasn’t even a corner, but then Dier was a bit half hearted and then Kane proves more ruthless in our box than he was in theirs all night, 1-1 and they haven’t even had a shot. The second Dier gets the offside horribly wrong, but even then they fuck up the situation, only for the ball to ping off Dier straight to their guy, who even then gets a deflections through Dier’s legs to score.

As Che Poch likes to say, Dis is fooble…

What isn’t fooble though, is what happened last week, that was poor management, bad approach and a poor performance. And that is ultimately why we are out of this tie.

Individual

Lloris - meh

Walker - Plenty of effort, plenty of wastage too. Got into so many great positions but his end product was largely fucking abysmal, and we really needed it to be better.

Dier - Tough night for the kid, bit lazy on the first goal, got himself all wrong and played them onside for the second, he did well to recover and was really unlucky the ball whacked off his chest straight to their fella, but ultimately his mistakes have been costly tonight, and there’s been a few this year, he’s only young, he has good qualities and there’s lots to like about him, but he needs to sharpen up.

TA - Good game generally

Vertonghen - Very good game.

Davies - He had a couple of forward moments, but just doesn’t quite embrace the bomb forward ethos like Broadway Danny or calamity Kyle.

Wanyama - Worked hard, always tries to look forwards, took his goal well.

Dembele - Just not doing it for me. Couple of typical dribbly centre pitch highlights, but we need tempo, he doesn’t provide it.

Alli - Bumble, bumble bumble, petulance.

Eriksen - Really good game, he’s an 8/10 hybrid. Scores a goal, gets an assist, 7 key passes (next best had 4) also sees more ball than both our CM’s. (64 passes, 82%). My MOTM

Kane - I can’t fault his effort tonight, and that’s the minimum requirement, but he definitely left his shooting boots at home.

Son - Was lively, but ultimately didn't really up the intelligence/composure factor by enough and wasted a glorious chance.

Up until now I've disagreed with you regarding Dembele. However this season he just isn't reaching the heights of last. He just slows us down, and when we lack pace up front anyway it causes a real detriment.

Really think Winks should be pushing him for a starting place over the next few weeks.
