Watford rejecting EUR 46M bid from Shanghai SIPG for Odion Ighalo sums up the current situation. the moment Batshit leaves for Chelsea for EUR 40M, the prices of strikers just got even more distorted. Likewise if MU comes in for Kane, what price do you think he would be sold since there is always a price? Just to illustrate my pt.

The tv money had inflated player prices esp those that are in demand. I just hope we close this deal asap since it is the most impt position we need to fill. The rest we can wait, no problem.
I didn't say everyone is available at a price, Kane is not one of them. However there are plenty of strikers out there fully capable of providing sufficient cover for Kane and available at a fair price.

I think this deal will happen soon anyway. All the signs are there. We put in a bid, they reject it. They ask for more money. The player suggests he isn't happy. AZ sell him for an undisclosed fee and tell the fans they tried to fight for him but he wanted to leave. Although I'm sure we have other cards up our sleeve in case it doesn't happen.

This sounds exactly like Berahino deal right up to the part before where it says "AZ sell him for an undisclosed fee"

Indeed - the cards up our sleeve in case the Berahino deal didn't really pan out either

I just hope we make moves now to either sign this Janssen guy or admit defeat and move on to other targets before we run out of other targets

It was criminal to make Kane play the whole season as the only true striker in the whole squad last year and it would be inexcusable to do the same again this year and repeat the same mistakes in the transfer market

We've had a long time to assess the market and identify targets - we should have a 10 fold deep list of viable options and have a max spend attributed to them, once we reach that value they're either signed or we move on to the next one. No more punching a stone wall trying to sign players for a price the selling club won't accept right up until the last min and watching the window slam shut with us empty handed

It would be very unfair and potentially career affecting to expose Kane to the same level of high intensity football for a whole season again. He needs someone who can share the burden effectively

Whenever we are close to getting over any line, complications always tend to fly in from every direction, left right and centre. No club on this earth is better at snatching defeat from the jaws of victory when they are touted as being so close to achieving an objective......
The word 'Spursy' comes to mind. Clubs that take care of business properly off the field are more likely to take care of business properly on the field.

I know I am in the minority but if we start the season again without an additional it really is negligent especially after seeing Kane in the Euros where he looked pretty jaded.

Seems like we were waiting for the Brxit vote to be REMAIN to make the £ stronger and got it wrong!
You may say a lot of things about our club's transfer policy but this is just stupid. Sterling weakened on the referendum result but there is no indication it would have strengthened on a remain vote. Economically all of Europe would have preferred a stay outcome so to think the Euro would weaken is a pretty random forecast. All sorts of outcomes were possible and to suggest THFC were relying on a specific outcome before concluding a deal is fantasy land. The club will continually hold positions in both Sterling and Euro for such eventualities.

I highly doubt you are in the minority in thinking it would be negligent if we repeated the mistakes of last year and ended up without a striker to support Kane again

I'm pretty sure every Spurs fans thinks the same

You do realise that we aren't the only team who haggles and tries to get the best deal and inevitably misses out on transfer targets?

Quite correct but we don't hear about the other clubs failures and, apart from the chance to ridicule them, we shouldn't really care.

It also sounds like other deals that have come off. Besides I think West Brom could afford to keep Berahino because of the money in the EPL these days. That's why you see the likes of West Brom and Watford asking crazy money for their top players because they don't need to cash in now. I'm not sure the Eredivisie is in the same boat though.

Normally it is funny to see our fans get childish and whiny but for some reason this transfer window I find it really annoying.

Maybe it is because there is so much money flying around. Or maybe it is because we are a CL team again and now people think we are the shit.

According to the player himself, we have bid and bid and bid and AZ won't even come to the table to discuss it. That's not playing hardball. That's downright rude to Vincent Janssen. This transfer will get done under our terms because the player wants to come to us and we are Tottenham Hotspur and they are AZ. We ought not to just stump up the extra money when everything is in our favor.

Of course I do. I don't know whether we manage to screw up more often than other clubs, but it seems that way. Maybe it only seems that way because I don't take so much notice of other clubs' transfer business.

But that's a debate for another thread.....

It was the same last summer though wasn't it? We had 6/9 months to identify another new striker and we didn't get one in the end. Both Martial and Berahino didn't happen last summer for whatever reason but that was it. We had to make do in the end, which was a travesty. This Janssen bid feels different than those per suits though. I'm more confident of this happening than any of the striker chases last summer.
