No.

Whilst the US football team will undoubtedly improve over time and as the game becomes more popular, just, no.

That's an extraordinary thing to say, and it certainly shouldn't be the basis for CCV choosing a national team.

I'm just saying...you can say England is great all you want, but the truth is y'all have won jack shit. America is new to the party and we have already recently trumped you in your own game. I can understand if it is a bitter pill to swallow.

It will not only take better athletes. In fact, it wouldnt matter if we got better athletes playing soccer or not. Because what we lack are technical skills, technique, and creativity. Those are taught and harbored at a young age. Sadly, the youth structure in this country is very poor at the moment. The US is where its at right now because of its drive, heart and fight. Mixed in with a few talented home grown footballers and dual nationals born and developed in other countries, of course. Unfortunately this core is getting old, and their is a huge lack of up and comers to replace them. And instead of trying to develop guys by improving their coaching in the academy structure, MLS would rather create its own rules to help big market teams bring in aging stars.
Spot on in your analysis of the current team. Heart and passion and drive, and then some luck. Having gone through the system as a player myself, it is absolutely terrible. The lack of technical ability in youth play here is astounding. Although to be fair England is only just recently revamping their youth setup because of similar problems.

Yes but England already had an academy system for years whereas the US is extremely far behind in that regard. FFS, pay to play clubs still exist!

About 20 years from now...hopefully. Realistically, I dont think I'll ever see the US win the WC. Just wayyyyyy too far behind the rest of the world and with each passing year where signing the stars gets more investment then the academies in MLS, the gap only widens.

Astoundingly stereotypical arrogance.

Ultimately though England is a far more prestigious and famous national side to play for - it's really irrelevant how we performed in the last World Cup - the USA will never be thought of as more than an underdog at that level.

Playing for England brings far more professional pride, international recognition and media exposure than playing for the USA ever will.

That's not a criticism of any kind, just a counter to the idea that he should be sticking with the USA - unless he thinks he isn't good enough to play for England, then there's no reason to assume the US is the better option. No reason at all.

The only parts I really disagree with are the parts in bold. I think professional pride is purely down tot he individual, that's not something we can assess. Never say ever….. I was under the impression that the sport was growing in the USA? @yankspurs ?

Media exposure, perhaps in the Europe. But what about within the US itself?

I'd love to see him eventually turn out for England. But I would;t begrudge the lad making claim to an American team spot either.

To keep the run with stereotypes going, what else would you expect from an American?

To think your accent was Australian and then shoot you in the face?

No problem with CCV's decision, hope he does well for the US though it would have been an extra prospect in the pot for us, we at least seem to have some exciting younger players coming through - mainly ours of course - ok they get mega hyped and built up to fail with England, but then who can forget Freddy Adu eh...

Well I am an Australian, so they probably think my accent is South African.

Can't believe y'all can't see I'm on the wind up :troll:

I don't get to play the troll very often, nor do I want to most of the time; but sometimes it is fun to put a different hat on

Not seen much of CCV but with him chosen on the bench the other night ahead of fazio it looks like fazio will be sold in jan/summer to make room for CCV in the squad

And this is why the rest of the world can't stand the English.

More professional pride? What the fuck?
