Fucking gooners were all celebrating our victory last night because we have benfica just before the NLD.
Can understand why. Our record after playing in Europe is absolutely horrible.
But if we cant perform and be up for that game despite having EL a few games before then the players ought to be ashamed of themselves.
It's got nothing to do with "effort" it's simply down to how the body works. No amount of money or effort makes it recover quicker.
As would we if the roles were reversed.Fucking gooners were all celebrating our victory last night because we have benfica just before the NLD.
But it'll be the same if we make champions league, play Wednesday then Saturday. I don't buy into the 'can't play 2 games in a week' nonsense, they are professional athletes being paying tens of thousands a week. Just my onion.
Not strictly true as in the CL you would be in a country that is closer to home whereas with Europa you have a flight from Eastern Europe. Depending how far you are you could lose a day because you get back late after leaving straight away and arriving early in the morning or because you arrive half way through the next day, so those didnt play, miss a day of trainingI just don't get this can't play two games a week crap.
1) There is no difference in recovery time from playing Wednesday and then Saturday and playing Thursday and then Sunday
2) Before Sky came along the Old first division had 22 teams, the League cup had two legs and there were replays in the FA cup so teams were often playing 60+ games a season.
3) The pitches in those days were no better than ploughed fields and players went down the pub after a game and had fish and chip suppers
4) Food and physical science has come on light years since then
5) travel to foreign places took twice as long and even travel in this country has changed so much, I can remember catching the same train as the players to Newcastle on the morning of the game !
6) We have much bigger squads now and can use up to three subs with seven on the bench, thye used to be lucky to have 14/15 first team squads.
Just one other thing for those that think the Europa cup is worthless, ask the Napoli players if they think that, did you see the panic in their eyes when Swansea were going through? There is a f****** big echo sound in our trophy cabinet

This is the biggest issue. Distance is far greater in EL.Not strictly true as in the CL you would be in a country that is closer to home whereas with Europa you have a flight from Eastern Europe.
