Mauricio Pochettino appears to have found his midfield metronome in Harry Winks, who is currently leading the way in one statistic in the Premier League.

winks is decent thats it, when you're ahead of De Bruyne in a stat and are not a patch on him, you know the stat is very very misleading.

This is exactly why I say not to post shyte from 3rd rate football bloggers.

Anyone could write this article, without watching a single Spurs game this season, and somehow believe they couldn't possibly be wrong.

If Ballon Dor's were given out for passing a lot and still not controlling football matches, Winks would be a big challenger.

You don’t have to read them. What conclusions we draw from them is our own prerogative.

I think Winks probably does exactly what Poch asks him to do, i.e. keep things ticking over and don't take unnecessary chances with the ball in deep areas of the pitch.

Best way to defend is to reliably keep the ball.
It is useful to be able to give him the ball knowing he is not going to lose it - the rest of the team can shuffle forwards.

But he didn't do this against manc nor against arsenal.
He's one of our own and we want him to succeed, but he can't go missing like that.

He didn’t go missing. The other players failed to move or he didn’t find the killer pass, but he had enough of the ball to not be ‘missing’.

The game Winks played against Arsenal was superb showed composure strength athleticism and control wants further encouraging is we know Winks has more gears if allowed. The game against Madrid where he out played to cm kings in Modric and Kloss.

Imo Winks is a diamond...I believe we have a few in our squad that need a little polish so that they sparkle again.

we all love him but he need to take a few more risks on the ball, and Poch needs to unchain him so he can run on beyond the strikers every now and again, we have no element of surprise

could be very attritional again at the weekend unless we score in the first quarter

Winks is capable of playing the ball forwards quickly and accurately, but he needs players around him who are comfortable taking the ball in tight areas or on the half turn, this season, he’s only got Eriksen near him who can do this, Alli can too, but he’s not been playing.

I think this is why Poch bought Lo Celso and N’Dombele who like the ball in tight areas and can also pass quickly and accurately, helping us break down teams who sit deep, when the pace of Son and Moura is redundant.

I'm not sure about the first bit - the only time Eriksen gets a pass from Winks is when he drops back to collect the ball from his feet.
Eriksen and Alli are at their best when they get the ball early, in tight areas, as you say. Winks cannot or will not make that pass. Arguably that is not his job.
